As warmer weather approaches, we want to address a common trend we see in the jail population during the summer months. Because Oklahoma County District Court operates at a lower capacity with limited jury trials, along with other factors like seasonal fluctuations in crime rates, we often see an increase in the jail population during the summer.

Oklahoma County began offering court date text reminders on Dec. 1, 2025. By March 30, 2026, 3,301 individuals were following at least one case, making up about 1/3 of all enrollments. As Oklahoma County continues to prioritize smart, cost-effective reforms, court text reminders represent a scalable solution that promotes accountability while removing barriers.

CJAC has urged the Oklahoma State Senate to advance and pass House Bill 1638 without delay. The bill makes a relatively small change with broad implications for stable jail operations and funding.
