🌟 SHERIFF’S SPOTLIGHT: The Pantry of Oxford and Lafayette County 🌟

This week we’re shining the Sheriff’s Spotlight on a group of neighbors who make sure no one in our county has to go hungry: The Pantry of Oxford and Lafayette County.

For more than 30 years, The Pantry has quietly carried out one of the most important jobs in our community: putting food on the table for local families, seniors, and children who need a little help. It’s run almost entirely by volunteers, many from church congregations all across Lafayette County, who give their time week after week without asking for anything in return.

Our deputies see every day how much a full pantry matters. A family that knows where its next meal is coming from has one less burden to carry, and that makes our whole community stronger and safer. The work The Pantry does is service in the truest sense, and we’re proud to call them our neighbors.

With Thanksgiving and the holidays just around the corner, this is a great time to lend a hand. Here’s how you can help:

🥫 Donate food: Drop off non-perishable items at The Pantry, 713 Molly Barr Road.
💵 Give financially: Mail a check to The Pantry, P.O. Box 588, Oxford, MS 38655. Monetary gifts go a long way, since The Pantry can buy food in bulk through regional food banks.
🙋 Volunteer: Extra hands are always needed, especially during the busy holiday season.

📞 Questions, current hours, or need help yourself? Call (662) 832-8001 or visit The Pantry of Oxford & Lafayette County on Facebook.

To every volunteer and donor who keeps those shelves stocked: thank you. Lafayette County is a better place because of you. 💙

👻🎃 CYBER THURSDAY: Don’t Get Tricked! 🎃👻

Halloween isn’t the only time people wear disguises. Scammers do it all year long.

They might pretend to be:
🏦 Your bank saying your account is locked
📦 A delivery company with a “missed package”
👔 Your boss asking you to buy gift cards
👵 A family member who’s in trouble and needs money fast

The costume may look convincing, but there’s always a trick behind it. 🕸️

Before you click, pay, or share personal information:
✅ Slow down. Scammers rely on panic and urgency.
✅ Don’t use the phone number or link in the message.
✅ Verify by contacting the person or company through a number or website you already know is real.
✅ Never pay with gift cards, wire transfers, or apps like Zelle or Cash App to someone you don’t know.

If something feels off, trust your instincts. The only tricks we want this weekend are the ones at your front door! 🍬

Have a safe and happy Halloween, Lafayette County! 🧡🖤
