Congratulations to our All-County Symphonic and Concert Band participants! Over 250 students auditioned across the county and West Florida High School has 35 representatives across the two ensembles!

Over the next two weeks, students will rehearse to prepare for a fantastic concert. The All-County Symphonic Band will be under the baton of Dr. Douglas Phillips, and the All-County Concert Band will be under the baton of our very own Peter Krostag.

The concert will be held on Thursday, November 12th, at 6:30pm at Olive Baptist Church. Admission is free.

Congratulations to sophomore Bennett Webb of the Boys Golf Team on qualifying for Regionals!

Bennett will tee off at the Fort Walton Beach Golf Course on Monday. Good luck, Bennett!

Yesterday morning, West Florida High School received a threat against the safety and security of our campus. As a result, we commenced our lockdown procedures, in an abundance of caution. The Escambia County Sheriff's Department and ECPS security personnel responded immediately, and were able to sweep and secure the campus in a timely manner. Law enforcement was able to deem the threat non-credible.

We are grateful for our partners in law enforcement and will work hand in hand with them until we discover and hold accountable those who would threaten our campuses. Rest assured, we take all threats against our campuses very seriously. We urge parents to have pointed conversations with their students about the seriousness of this type of behavior.

We sincerely appreciate the seriousness and professionalism with which our staff and students handled this unfortunate event. While we detest these kinds of disruptions, we are proud of the way our Jag Family reacted in a stressful situation. Keeping our students and staff safe and secure is our number one priority, and we take this responsibility very seriously.

Congratulations to the following students for completing the Florida Lottery Student Service Challenge and earning $500 toward their educational goals: Jacob Yeldon, Gabrielle Copeland, and Desiree Fails.

These three students completed 20+ new hours of community service, wrote an essay reflecting on civic responsibility and leadership, and submitted all required forms by the deadline.

Flight Leader and Commanding Officer of the Blue Angels Captain Adam Bryan spoke to our senior Engineering Academy and ROTC students yesterday morning.

We were incredibly lucky to hear from Captain Bryan before next week’s NAS Pensacola Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show, which will be Captain Bryan’s final show as the Blue Angels Boss.

Captain Bryan spoke on the work ethic and characteristics needed to succeed at the highest level of Naval Aviation, he gave a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to travel with the Blue Angels, and he took many questions from our Jags!

A native of Canton, Connecticut, Captain Bryan graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Following his commissioning, he attended flight school in Pensacola, Florida, and continued his training at NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Kingsville. In July 2007, he earned his designation as a Naval Aviator and joined the VFA-106 "Gladiators" for initial fleet training as an FA-18C pilot.

In April 2024, he was selected to command the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, assuming command in November 2024. Captain Bryan was recognized as the George Bush First Tour Naval Aviator of the Year in 2011 and as the Commander Naval Air Force Atlantic Pilot of the Year in 2016.

We thank Captain Bryan for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit with West Florida High School – good luck next week, sir!

Yesterday, WFHS Assistant Football Coach David Gardner was honored with the Pro Football Hall of Fame/USA Today Award of Character. This is an award that honors teachers, nurses, coaches, firefighters, police officers, and veterans whose impact strengthens communities and changes lives.

We are so proud of Coach Gardner, who is an incredible mentor and leader for our West Florida High School Jaguars. Congratulations to our West Florida High School Band, Percussion, and Color Guard students on their outstanding performance at the Eastern Shore Classic held at Daphne High School on Saturday, October 24th.

The Sound of the Jags received STRAIGHT SUPERIOR RATINGS in all Captions! We are especially impressed with the Sound of the Jags as they have had limited practice time due to the hurricane.

West Florida High School sophomore Annabelle Johnson is up for the PNJ Florida Power & Light Pensacola Girls Athlete of the Week for Oct. 19-24!

This past week, Annabelle finished 2nd at the Running Wild EscaRosa Championship, runing the 5K in 20:47.20!
