Goal and Mission of the IALGBTQJ

The International Association of LGBTQ+ Judges was founded in 1993 as an organization of LGBTQ+ judges and judicial officers. The Association works to support its members through networking, judicial education and visibility of its members.

Among our more notable members, we have federal judges and justices of several state Supreme Courts. We also have members from across the world including Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Japan, Ireland and South Africa. The Association has a strong working relationship with the National LGBT Bar Association and its many affiliates. Our members are also in positions of leadership in other judicial organizations including the National Association of Women Judges and the American Judges Association.

The Association holds an annual meeting and conference in August. In 2020, the Association will meet in Washington, DC from August 12 - 14, 2020.

The goal of the Association is to identify and support the needs of LGBTQ+ judicial officers, increase the visibility of judicial officers who often serve as role models in our community and the legal community, and ensure equal treatment of all persons who appear in our courtrooms.
