Last night, the Abington Township Fire Department held our May township-wide training, bringing together members from all five fire companies for a hands-on night of skill-building. Crews practiced forcible entry before advancing hose lines up a flight up stairs to reach a fire, along with search and rescue operations, pump operations and aerial operations.

Training like this helps to ensure our firefighters are ready to operate safely and effectively when the community needs us most.

Earlier today, ATFD crews participated in the Abington Senior High School mock crash, delivering a powerful message about the dangers of impaired driving.

The live demonstration showed students what first responders face at real crash scenes, including the challenging and often time-sensitive task of extricating occupants from heavily damaged vehicles.

We were also proud to have several of our junior members on scene assisting and gaining valuable experience alongside our crews.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this impactful event possible - together, we continue working to keep our community safe.

Today, we recognize and celebrate the incredible mothers who stand behind our volunteers. Your strength, support, and sacrifice do not go unnoticed.

This past weekend, members of the ATFD successfully completed the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy’s Flashover Simulator training.

Participants had the opportunity to witness the development of a flashover firsthand, gaining a deeper understanding of the warning signs and learning critical survival techniques.

A flashover is the transitional stage of a fire, moving from the growth stage to a fully developed fire. During this rapid and dangerous event, all contents and gases within a room can ignite almost simultaneously, with temperatures reaching 1,200°F or more.

Training like this is invaluable in helping our firefighters recognize these extreme conditions and react appropriately to protect themselves and others on the fireground.

On Tuesday morning, 3rd graders from Highland Elementary visited the Abington Fire Company for a fun educational experience! The students learned important fire safety tips, including how to stay low in smoke, the importance of knowing their home address, plus how to stop, drop and roll. It was a great visit with lots of thoughtful questions and hands-on learning to help keep our community safe! 👏🧯

🚒 Fire lanes aren't just painted lines - they are life-saving access routes for emergency responders! 🚑

Firefighters and EMS personnel depend on clear fire lanes to quickly reach buildings for fire suppression and assist patients. Fire trucks require space to park, deploy aerial ladders and stabilizers, and operate essential rescue equipment. Even a single vehicle parked in a fire lane can obstruct emergency access, delaying response when every second matters.

Parking "just for a minute," using flashers or leaving a vehicle temporarily still blocks emergency access and is subject to fines.

🚗❌ No stopping. No waiting. No exceptions. Keeping fire lanes clear helps first responders do their job and helps protect lives and property.
