Our 20th Annual Education Symposium — Maternal and Child Health Across the Life Course: How Stories Become Care, Practice, and Policy; brought together healthcare providers, researchers, advocates, community members, and families at the University of Pittsburgh campus for a day that reminded us exactly why this work matters.

We are grateful for every person who showed up, every voice that filled that room, and every story that was shared. We want to express our deep gratitude to our keynote speaker Dr. Russell J. Ledet , our presenting partners, Embrace Center of Excellence, University of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County Home Visiting Network, and Allegheny County Health Department, and to our sponsors whose support made this day possible.

When the men in our families are physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy the whole family benefits. That’s not opinion. That’s data!

Research shows that when fathers are actively involved and healthy, mothers receive better prenatal care, babies have stronger outcomes, and families build more resilient futures.

This June, we’re celebrating the men who show up and the programs at Healthy Start Pittsburgh designed to support them.

Meet Ta'lor Pinkston — licensed clinical social worker, Clinical Practice Program Manager at Healthy Start Pittsburgh, and a mom who turned her personal journey into purpose. 💚

Ta'lor's path to this work began with her own experience of prenatal depression and generalized anxiety. That journey became the foundation of why she now manages our Moving Beyond Depression program — a free, CBT-based program supporting moms experiencing prenatal and postpartum depression.

"It's very full circle for me. It allows me to take my personal experience and support moms in their mental health and well-being and teach them to advocate for themselves."

One thing she wants you to know: postpartum depression doesn't only impact mothers. Co-parents experience it too, and when we make maternal mental health conversations gender specific, we miss the whole family.

At Healthy Start Pittsburgh, we see the whole family. And we have free support waiting for you.
