Happy National Weatherization Day from DHCD!

The Weatherization Assistance Program was signed in August of 1976, and this year our team is celebrating the milestone of 50 years of Weatherization services!

For half a century, WAP has been reducing household energy use and improving resident health and safety through the installation of cost-effective energy savings measures. Thank you to our tireless and dedicated weatherization team, and we look forward to another 50 years of serving the Commonwealth through our weatherization services.

Happy National Weatherization Day!

Since 1976, the Weatherization Assistance Program has helped households across the Commonwealth reduce high energy bills by providing home improvements focused on energy efficiency.

This year, DHCD is celebrating the local providers behind the work—because weatherization across Virginia happens one home, one family, and one community at a time.

National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) is from Oct. 25-31, so we're learning all about lead-based paint: what it is, what it does, and what we can do about it.

Hear from DHCD's Lead Hazard Reduction Program Manager, Susan Hill, to learn more about lead paint, how we can reduce exposure to it, and the best way to protect our homes and our families from it.

Congratulations to the New River Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Area Consortium on receiving nearly $8 million in federal funding to support workforce development across the region.

Awarded through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) initiative, the $7.99 million grant will help address workforce needs and expand access to training for in-demand jobs, supporting economic growth and new opportunities for rural Virginians.

We’re proud to celebrate this investment in Southwest Virginia’s workforce and economic future.
