We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of Jeanette Preston, who served RCPS in a variety of roles for nearly 35 years. Mrs. Preston began her career at Huff Lane Elementary School in 1993 as a cafeteria assistant and later a food service worker before transitioning to Monterey Elementary School as a building operations worker. She later served as a building operations worker at Central Office until her retirement in 2024.

Mrs. Preston was always a friendly face who greeted visitors with a smile and took great pride in her work. She played a vital role in supporting our students, staff, and visitors each day. Please join us in remembering her life and legacy. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.

Our Technology team has a final tip to share for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month! 💻

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can be helpful, but can also be inaccurate, even when they sound confident. Verify dates, names, and quotes, and always check sources to ensure everything is correct before sharing information gathered through AI.

Additionally, unfamiliar browser extensions, apps, add-ons, websites, and AI tools can pose risks to your personal information by recording your inputs, stealing credentials, copying files you upload, or exposing your network to hackers. Sticking to verified, secure tools and software is never a bad idea when it comes to staying safe online!

We are saddened by the passing of Tim Carpenter, who served RCPS as a trusted member of the Technology Department for 15 years until his retirement in 2019. Mr. Carpenter served as an electronics technician, information systems analyst, and network engineer.

While he often worked behind the scenes, he played a critical role in supporting every student, teacher, and staff member across our school division. His work ensured that classrooms stayed connected and that the systems our schools depend on each day operated seamlessly.

Please join us in remembering his life and legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time, including his wife, RCPS Math Specialist Robin Carpenter.

For this week’s , we caught up with William Fleming students volunteering at the Big Feet Meet and asked: “What’s more important: winning or cheering someone on?” 🏆

Did You Know? RCPS students contribute thousands of hours each year through volunteer service, mentoring, leadership activities, and community events. Opportunities like Big Feet Meet help students build connections, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact both in and out of the classroom!
