When a home fire strikes, every second counts.
This week, American Red Cross staff, volunteers and members from the Tehama County Health Services Agency came together in Corning to help neighbors make their homes safer.
Together, teams installed 66 free smoke alarms, shared fire safety tips and helped residents create emergency preparedness plans. As a result, 18 families are now better prepared and more informed about fires and other potential hazards.
"Events like these allow us to educate our community members on the importance of home fire safety and give them a tool to feel at peace inside of their home," said Community Disaster Program Manager Mara Rouse.
Beyond installing smoke alarms, the event created meaningful opportunities for residents to ask questions, share concerns and make meaningful connections.
"Though a smoke alarm only takes a couple of minutes to install, the connection with our community members is what makes these events so special. I am grateful for our volunteers and community partners who joined us for this incredible day," said Mara.
