Our communities need real answers to questions about the plans proposed by MPS. I support the time it takes to get those answers and to understand the way forward that supports our students and teachers.

That means going beyond the proposed November timeframe so that everyone who wants to can participate in the process of ensuring strong public schools in Minneapolis.

Summer’s not quite over, but as we enter the second half of August, back to school season is practically here.

Unfortunately, not every child in our community has the tools they need to go back to the classroom this fall, but the folks at the Salvation Army North are working hard to change that. I joined them this weekend, along with local businesses and volunteers, to hand out backpacks, clothes, and supplies to our neighbors that need a little extra help.

Our community looks out for each other - that's always been our strength. Thank you to everyone that made this weekend’s event such a success.

161 years ago, hundreds of thousands of enslaved people learned they were free.

Despite ongoing attempts to erase Black history, we still rise and celebrate our ancestors' lives, sacrifices, and dreams. May we always sing and praise their stories, never be silenced.

Take time today to reflect, learn, and recommit to the ongoing fight for justice. Black Lives Matter.

We hope you take part in community celebrations happening across our state. Today and every day, support Black businesses, artists, authors, creatives, and musicians.

Now that we've wrapped up the 2026 legislative session, our SD 59 team will host a community town hall on Tuesday, July 7th at the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC) to debrief key legislation that was passed to improve the lives of Minnesotans and our community.

I'm looking forward to sharing more on the incredible work that went into saving HCMC, investments for more counties to implement the Minnesota African American Family Preservation and Child Welfare Disproportionality Act, and more.

I look forward to the conversation and hearing your feedback on this session and your priorities for the upcoming biennium. See you then.

Dinner will be served at 5:30pm. No registration required.

I was proud to vote for the passage of the Anonymous Threat Reporting System bill, which will undoubtedly save lives. DFLers remain committed to providing our school systems and local law enforcement with proven critical tools to protect students and staff from violence and harm.

"This is significant that they achieved that win, especially in the first session,” Hockley said. “That has not been my experience with Sandy Hook Promise and in other states. Sometimes it can take multiple sessions to get there, so they should be very, very proud of themselves and their impact.”

Congrats, grads! You’ve worked so hard and have overcome so many obstacles to reach this milestone in your education and life. I wish you well on the next chapter of your journey! Go Polars! 💙

Within two years, North High had sharply narrowed the gap. As of April 2025, its graduation rate had risen to81%, just 4 percentage points below the state average.

Happy Pride, Minnesota! I will always champion an inclusive and welcoming state for all.

This month and every month- know that you are sacred and you belong EVERWHERE. In all the forms of q***r, you matter, YOU belong. No politician or legislation will EVER determine our value or worth. Our dignity is intrinsic; it is not granted, and it cannot be taken away.

We will always fight to protect our trans and two-spirit siblings and build a world where trans kids can become trans elders.

Forever here, forever q***r. Stay safe. We love you all! ❤️🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵💜🖤🤍🤎

As you may have heard by now, the Minnesota Legislature agreed to give a lifeline to the Hennepin County Medical Center effectively saving it from closure. I worked hard every day with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the HCMC bill was in the best possible shape to stabilize the hospi...
