All February long, we’ll be sharing the moments of care, service, and compassion shown by Vincentians across Southwest Texas.

This is what love looks like.

“I was about five or six years old when someone knocked on our door.”

Patricia remembers sitting with her brother while her mother answered the door. A man was hungry. Her mom told him to sit and wait while she made him a sandwich and poured a glass of milk.

Curious, Patricia and her brother went to the front window. The man was sitting on the steps.

“We were surprised,” she said. “We didn’t know what a hungry man looked like. He looked just like you and me.”

That image stayed with her.

Years later, during Thanksgiving distributions, Patricia found herself thinking about that moment again. “It doesn’t matter who they are,” she said. “They’re hungry.”

For the past 13 years, Patricia has served as a Vincentian with the Little Flower Conference — carrying forward the lesson her mother showed her all those years ago. 💙
