As we close out another incredible school year, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the students who helped shape the future of Santa Barbara Unified.

A heartfelt thank you to our Student Advisory Council for their leadership, insight, and commitment to ensuring student voices were heard throughout the year. Their ideas, perspectives, and dedication have helped inform important conversations and decisions across our District.

We are especially grateful to outgoing Student Board Member Carlos Vazquez Taft, whose leadership, passion, and advocacy have left a lasting impact on our schools and community. Carlos helped create meaningful opportunities for students to engage in district leadership and exemplified what it means to lead with purpose and service.

To Carlos and every member of the Student Advisory Council: thank you for your time, your courage to speak up, and your commitment to making Santa Barbara Unified stronger for all students. We are proud of what you've accomplished and excited to see what comes next.

Please join us in thanking and congratulating these outstanding student leaders! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

At Santa Barbara Unified, our commitment to a Culture of Care doesn't take a summer break. While the summer months offer a welcome change of pace, we know that supporting our students' mental health and well-being is a year-round journey.

To help our students relax, recharge, and thrive over the break, we are launching a special summer video series filled with quick, practical wellness tips. Parents, this is a great opportunity to watch together and talk about healthy habits at home!

Taking care of your mind is the most important part of a great summer. Let's practice self-care together, SB Unified! πŸ’›

πŸ“’ Important Summer Updates for SB Unified Student iPads! πŸ“’

As part of our Tech with Intent initiative, Santa Barbara Unified is introducing two key changes to student devices and Google accounts to support digital safety and encourage a healthy balance of screen-free time this summer.

πŸ—“οΈ 1. Google & YouTube Changes Several Google services, including YouTube, were disabled on secondary student accounts (Grades 7–12). (Approved classroom videos will still be viewable through Canvas!)

πŸ’» 2. Summer iPad Policies by Grade:
Grades K–7: iPads stay at school sites for the summer. (Rising 8th-graders are getting a brand-new, on-device content filter installed!)
Grade 8 (Rising 9th-graders): iPads will be automatically disabled for the summer to promote screen-free time (exemptions apply for PEAC & SBCC students).
Grades 9–11: iPads stay home, but families can opt-in to have the device disabled for the summer.

πŸ”„ All devices will be automatically turned back on by the start of the next school year.

❓ Need your rising 9th-grader's iPad turned back on for summer learning, or want to opt-in for a high school shutdown? Fill out our online form at www.sbunified.org, visit your high school, or contact the ETS Helpdesk at (805) 963-4338 ext. 4357 / 720 Santa Barbara Street.

Thank you for your flexibility as we work to create a safer, more intentional digital environment for our students! β˜€οΈβœ¨
