There's no substitute for hands-on learning, especially when it comes to substation safety.

NWPPA's Fall Substation Boot Camp brought utility professionals together for a combination of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and real-world learning in the field.

Led by instructor Mark Forster, attendees explored substation switching, electrical fundamentals, grounding and bonding, handheld meter safety, and safety leadership. The experience also included a substation tour led by Chris Wallace of Seattle City Light, with additional insights from longtime Seattle City Light employee and fellow attendee Rusty Welshon.

A big thank you to Chris and Seattle City Light for helping coordinate the tour and sharing their expertise, and to Mark for leading another valuable training experience.

It's opportunities like these that help utility professionals strengthen their skills, learn from one another, and bring safer practices back to their crews.
