Pride still matters. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

This month, we celebrate loudly for those who came before us, stand proudly for those beside us, and keep showing up for those still finding their way. Happy Pride Month. ✨

This weekend, we took a moment to honor the life, spirit, and legacy of Kirk Balenciaga surrounded by love from his house members, his mother, and community. 💜 The celebration began with a beautiful and heartfelt rendition of “Take Me to the King” by Renee Huggans-Williams that moved so many in attendance and created a powerful moment of reflection, healing, and remembrance.

Kirk’s energy, joy, and presence left an unforgettable impact on those who knew and loved him. As we continue to carry his memory with us, we remember one of the best ways to honor him: to “Get excited” about life and all that it has to offer. May we continue to live boldly, love loudly, and embrace every moment with the same spirit he brought into every room. ✨

One of the most powerful moments from Pride in the Park was hearing from as she reminded us that our mere existence as Black LGBTQ+ people is, and always has been, an act of resistance. Her words served as both a celebration of how far our community has come and a call to continue protecting the spaces, freedoms, and voices that generations before us fought to create.

As a pioneer and one of the founding board members connected to the legacy of DC Black Pride, we were deeply honored to have her share her wisdom and encourage our community to remain engaged—from local elections all the way to the federal level. Thank you, Rayceen, for continuing to pour into the community and reminding us of the power we hold when we show up, speak out, and stand together. 💜
