TRAINING OF VOTER EDUCATION FACILITATORS UNDERWAY IN KANCHIBIYA DISTRICT

26/05/2026

The Electoral Commission’s training of Voter Education Facilitators is currently underway at Kanchibiya Town Council Civic Centre. The five-day training programme commenced on Monday, 25th May 2026, and will end on Friday, 29th May 2026.

The training aims to equip facilitators with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively conduct voter education activities within the district ahead of the general elections of 13th August. The Voter Education Facilitators are scheduled to be deployed on 30th and 31st May 2026, with a view to commencing voter education fieldwork on 1st June 2026. They will educate citizens on voting procedures, electoral malpractice, and how to mark a ballot paper in order to eliminate voter apathy and rejected ballot papers. The voter education exercise will run from 1st June to 31st July 2026 in all 10 wards of the district.

In his official opening remarks, the District Electoral Officer (DEO), Mr. Joseph Zulu, urged the VEFs to pay much-needed attention to the newly amended Constitution No. 13 of 2025 and Article No. 12 of the Electoral Process Act, which has introduced a mixed-member proportional representation, in order to be able to educate citizens on its applicability at National Assembly and Local Government levels. The District Voter Education Trainers, Mr. Paul Muma, Mr. Winston Kamima, and the DVEC Coordinator, Mr. Chrispine Chishimba, are on hand to ensure that VEFs are equipped with facilitation skills to conduct the exercise diligently.

The Commission underscores that voter education is foundational to the credibility of the 13th August 2026 General Election. Therefore, members of the public are encouraged to support the programme and cooperate with the trained facilitators during voter education activities in their respective wards.
