ZAMBIA PARTICIPATES IN THE 93RD WOAH GENERAL SESSION IN PARIS
Paris, France – 21 May 2026
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock wishes to announce that Zambia is participating in the 93rd General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organisation for Animal Health currently taking place in Paris from 18 to 22 May, 2026.
The Zambian delegation is being led by Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Max Choombe, accompanied by Acting Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Charles Maseka, and other senior government officials from the veterinary and livestock sector.
The high-level global meeting, convened by the World Organisation for Animal Health, has brought together delegates from member countries across the world to deliberate on critical issues affecting animal health, veterinary services, food security and global health resilience.
During the General Session, member states are expected to adopt international animal health standards, deliberate on technical topics of global importance, consider administrative and technical resolutions, and review strategic frameworks aimed at strengthening global animal health systems.
This year’s Animal Health Forum is being held under the theme, “Investing in Animal Health to Secure Everyone’s Future,” highlighting the importance of animal health in promoting economic stability, food security, sustainable livestock production and global public health.
Zambia’s participation in the conference demonstrates government’s continued commitment to strengthening veterinary services, improving livestock disease prevention and control systems, and enhancing international cooperation in animal health management.
The Ministry further notes that the conference provides an important platform for Zambia to engage with international partners, share experiences, and explore innovative approaches to financing and improving animal health systems for the benefit of farmers and the national economy.

Congratulations to the graduating vet class of 2026.
On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, 46 backyard poultry farmers graduated from two Broiler Farmer Field Schools in Chongwe District. The event was officiated by Dr. Zoran Muhimba, Senior Pathologist at UTH, who delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Director of Veterinary Services.
It is encouraging to see journalists now well-informed on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and able to report on it confidently.
Special thanks to Dr. Francis Mwanza and his team for hosting the Schools Without Walls, and to ICARS, through the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for supporting the CAAZAP project. Appreciation also goes to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Department of Veterinary Services, VAZ, and UNZAVET for their partnership.
Happy Mother's Day
