HAPPY WORLD TEACHERS' DAY!

Every piece plays an important part in making our College what it is, and today we celebrate the incredible teachers who are such an important part of the Southern River College community.

Our teachers do so much more than teach. They inspire, encourage, support and empower our students every day, helping them grow, discover their strengths and reach their full potential.

Just like a jigsaw puzzle, every piece matters, and our teachers each bring something unique and valuable to our College.

YEAR 10 AUSTRALIAN HISTORY COMPETITION

Congratulations to our Year 10 students who recently took part in the Australian History Competition!

The AHC is the largest history competition in Australia, attracting an impressive 34,000 entries nationwide. This annual multiple-choice competition challenges students to demonstrate their historical knowledge, skills and understanding, with questions designed to test their abilities beyond what they may have studied in the classroom.

A special congratulations to Phoenix Peos, Bao Le, Mia Eldom and Jilliane Leyno, who achieved an outstanding result, placing in the top 20% nationally!

Well done to all our students who participated. We are proud of your efforts and achievements!

YEAR 10 CERTIFICATE I BAKING – PIPING SKILLS

Last term, our Year 10 Certificate I Baking students got creative in the kitchen as they practised and developed their piping skills!

From swirls and stars to imaginative designs, students had plenty of fun experimenting with different techniques and discovering what they could create.

It was wonderful to see their creativity, confidence and personalities shine through in their designs, while developing practical skills essential to their Certificate I Baking course.

There was plenty of concentration, a few laughs and lots of proud smiles along the way!

CELEBRATING OUR AMAZING CLEANING TEAM!

We took the opportunity to celebrate and thank our wonderful cleaning team for everything they do to keep Southern River College clean, safe and welcoming for our students, staff and wider school community.

To show our appreciation, we hosted a special event in the Inspire Café to recognise the hard work, dedication and care they bring to our college every day.

Our cleaners play such an important role in making SRC a great place to learn and work, and we are incredibly grateful for all that they do behind the scenes.

Thank you for everything you do. You are a valued part of the SRC community!

MULTICULTURAL WEEK SO FAR AT SRC!

What a fantastic start to Multicultural Week at Southern River College!

On Monday, students explored a range of creative and cultural activities, including leaf and animal painting, sugar skull painting, wool braiding and origami, before finishing the day with an energetic African drumming session!

Tuesday continued the celebrations with cultural games, followed by a relaxing yoga session with Ms Marwaha.

It’s been wonderful to see our students getting involved, trying new things and celebrating the many cultures, traditions and experiences that make our school community so special.

We’re looking forward to more exciting activities as Multicultural Week continues!

Test your skills and coordination with an egg-and-spoon race, Indonesian Rangkuk Alu and Korean Jegichagi!

LUNCH 2 – YOGA WITH MS MARWAHA, Venue to be confirmed

Take a moment to unwind. Stretch, breathe and find your balance!

Students who have registered for Yoga should check the confirmed venue before the session.

Whether you're looking for a challenge or a moment of calm, there's something for everyone!

Southern River College finishes 3rd in the SSWA Track and Field Interschool Athletics Carnival with a huge score of 1599!

This is a fantastic achievement considering SRC is competing against much larger school populations such as 1st Bob Hawke College (2000+) and 2nd Alkimos College (1400+).

We took a 110 strong squad to compete across a range of different athletic events including, sprints, middle distance, throws, jumps and relays. Students were selected from their performances across the precarnival and carnival events last term, students have been undergoing training sessions after school too which also gave them an opportunity to challenge results.
It was a massive team effort, and one achievement that needs to be spoken about was having a competitor in every event and only having 1x DNF and one missed event, this was built around the positive team culture the students have created, with many students offering to compete in events so that they were all filled.

Congratulations to Flynn Gilchrist and Isaac Idi Kingombe who will be representing SRC at the All-Schools Athletics Championships this weekend where they take on the best of the best in their respective events in the 100m and High Jump.

MULTICULTURAL WEEK STARTS MONDAY!

We're almost ready for a fantastic week of cultural celebrations at Southern River College!

A few important reminders before the fun begins:

Yoga: Check your registration for Tuesday's lunchtime session with Ms Marwaha.

Bollywood Dancing: Students in Years 7–10 who registered their interest should check whether their place in Thursday's workshop has been confirmed.

Year 7 Holi Colour Run: Parents/carers, please ensure you've responded to the Consent2Go permission request. Students will also need suitable clothing and a towel.

Cultural Dress Day: Thursday 29 October! Staff and students are invited to wear clothing celebrating their culture, heritage or family traditions.

We can't wait to celebrate with our SRC community!
