We're pleased to acknowledge that Tamasyn Ramsay-Grounds has been appointed to Southern Grampians Shire Council following a recent countback after a vacancy.
Tam has been a strong advocate for animals and the environment in her community. As a member and volunteer of the Animal Justice Party, she has supported animal protection in various advisory and advocacy roles.
We wish Tamasyn all the best in her new role, serving as an independent councillor, and look forward to animals in Gariwerd having a voice represented in local decision-making 💜🐾

Retired greyhounds are still banned from most off-leash parks in Victoria.
Even after leaving the racing industry behind, they continue to face restrictions simply because they’re greyhounds.
But anyone who has met a rescue greyhound knows the truth:
they’re often gentle, affectionate, sleepy companions who deserve the same freedom and happiness as any other dog.
Keeping greyhounds permanently on-leash limits their ability to run, play, socialise, and fully enjoy life, all essential for their wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life.
That’s why we’re calling on the Victorian Government to scrap these outdated blanket leash laws.
Click the link in the comments to join us in emailing the Minister for Agriculture and calling for an end to blanket leash laws for greyhounds.

National Volunteer Week 💜🐾
This week is National Volunteer Week, and we want to thank you!
The Animal Justice Party is powered by passionate volunteers who care deeply about creating a kinder world for animals. From campaigning and events to advocacy, outreach, administration, and community action, so much of what we achieve is thanks to volunteers giving their time, energy, and compassion to the movement.
And honestly, we are incredibly proud of that. 💜
To everyone who has supported AJP in any way: thank you. Your compassion creates real change for animals every single day.
If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, we’d love to have you join the movement as a volunteer 🐾

When the Regional Community Vet Clinic (RCVC) first reached out to Georgie Purcell during her election campaign, they were operating from a donated space in a commercial clinic, limiting how many animals and families they could help.
They shared their vision for a permanent clinic that could provide free and low-cost veterinary care to pensioners, concession card holders, and low-income community members across regional Victoria.
Georgie fought at the time for the RCVC to secure funding in the budget, and this vision became a reality.
This clinic was built, providing affordable veterinary care including desexing, check-ups, dental care, nail trims, euthanasia, and end-of-life care for eligible pet owners.
Now, in this year's state budget, Georgie has secured funds for the clinic to expand.
At a time when so many people are struggling with the rising cost of living, access to affordable vet care helps keep families together.
This is what having Animal Justice Party in Parliament can achieve. 💛

The wool industry promised 16 years ago to end live lamb cutting.
That promise was never kept.
Live lamb cutting or 'mulesing' involves restraining young lambs - often just 2 to 12 weeks old - and cutting away strips of skin and flesh from their hindquarters, usually with little or no effective pain relief.
It leaves them with open, bleeding wounds and prolonged suffering in their earliest weeks of life.
The industry justifies this as a measure to prevent flystrike - but flystrike is preventable through non-harmful alternatives such as breeding plain-bodied sheep and improved husbandry practices.
Australia now remains the only country in the world where this practice is still widely permitted.
It’s time for Victoria to lead the way forward.
If the industry can't keep their promises, we must legislate an end to this barbaric practice.
