Do you run an Irish community organisation in Canada? Is your organization interested in applying for the Emigrant Support Programme (ESP) 2027/2028 grant round? The application process will open on 9 December 2026 and close on 14 January 2027.

Please join us for an online informational session about the ESP co-hosted by the Consulate General of Ireland, Toronto, and the Irish Abroad Unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Friday, 06 November at 10 am EST.

This event is for prospective applicants to receive all pertinent information for the ESP. Any changes in the application process and new information for those who have applied in the past will be addressed. All community members interested in learning more about the program are encouraged to attend.

Since 2004, the Emigrant Support Programme (ESP) has assisted more than 900 organisations in 55 countries with projects under the categories of heritage, community care, business networks and capital projects.

Congratulations to our colleagues at Tourism Ireland Canada on a wonderful spooky night celebrating Ireland: Home of Halloween at the Corleck.

We were delighted to hear from Adam Bunch about how Samhain traditions travelled from Ireland many years ago and inspired today’s festivities in Canada.

Last weekend was full of amazing Irish cultural shows in Toronto!

🎭Friday was opening night of the Toronto Irish Players newest production “The Buddhist of Castleknock” by Jim O’Hanlon, which is running until 31 October.

🎶On Saturday, the Coleck hosted an Irish Folk Music Showcase presented by Culture Ireland. It was an incredible night with performances by Fiárock, Padraig Jack and Rioghanch Connolly.

😄To end the weekend, comedian Jarlath Regan did a stopover in the city with his newest show “Gas man”.

The application process for the 2027 Global Games Development Fund (GGDF) is now open. The GGDF is jointly funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Emigrant Support Programme and the GAA. The fund supports projects and initiatives that create or enhance opportunities for the Irish diaspora and other communities abroad to participate in Gaelic games.

Clubs must be affiliated with the GAA in order to apply. Applications are welcome from eligible clubs and units planning to deliver a development project or initiative during the 2027 calendar year.

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the Irish Abroad Unit in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Ireland) to Toronto last week.

Through meetings with the Emerald Isle Seniors Centre, the Eamonn O’Loghlin Irish Canadian Immigration Centre, the Toronto Ireland Development Alliance (TIDA), the Ireland Canada Chamber of Commerce in Toronto, and a town hall style meeting with many other Irish community organisations, they came away with a strong impression of our mutigenerational Irish diaspora here in Toronto.

The meeting with Irish community organisations took place at the Corleck, in partnership with the Canada Ireland Foundation. It gave us an opportunity to hear from our community about their many upcoming activities and allowed our Irish Abroad Unit colleagues to share updates on next year’s Emigrant Support Programme.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to meet with us over the course of the visit. GRMA.
