Met with Ireland’s Ambassador to Cyprus Sarah Hamilton ahead of the General Affairs Council meeting of European Ministers today and tomorrow. Ireland takes up the 6 month presidency from Cyprus next month and I’ll be setting out our priorities for the term at this week’s meeting 🇮🇪 🇪🇺

The Cypriot EU Presidency is coming to an end and we truly could not have made it without the help of two incredible people who acted as liaison officers between the embassy and Cypriot authorities to coordinate all the visits.

Congratulations to the two Irish winners at last night’s Europa Heritage Awards. Two exemplary projects that showcase both Ireland’s heritage sites and our commitment to developing technical guidance in maintaining these historic buildings into the future.

A few highlights from a packed weekend of events across the island! Our Embassy joined fellow EU Member State embassies in celebrating Europe Day, as part of the EU programme organised by the European Commission in Cyprus 🇪🇺 ✌️

Today we celebrate Europe Day. For more than 50 years, Ireland’s 🇮🇪 membership of the European Union has had an overwhelmingly positive impact across all dimensions of Irish society.

EU membership has been central to Ireland’s development and transformation into a modern, open and innovative economy.

Closer integration with our European partners has helped to make us all safer, stronger and more prosperous.

From July to December 2026, Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union – a central leadership role at the heart of EU decision-making.

For six months, Ireland will guide negotiations, broker agreement between Member States, and help deliver EU laws and policies that affect the daily lives of more than 450 million people.

On 21 April, the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) was pleased to welcome Mr. Ronan O’Sullivan, Deputy Head of Mission (DHoM) at the Embassy of Ireland, to the Home for Cooperation. 🤝

The meeting offered a valuable opportunity to exchange views and explore possibilities for future collaboration. AHDR presented its work and shared insights on education as a confidence-building measure in Cyprus, highlighting the important role of the Peace Education program ‘Imagine’ in fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.. We look forward to building on this positive engagement through joint initiatives that foster dialogue and cooperation.

The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research thanks Embassy of Ireland Cyprus for the discussion on possible collaboration and support for the AHDR’s work. 🌍

Ambassador Hamilton attended the ANZAC Day Commemorative dawn service on 25 April, joining others to pay tribute to Australian and New Zealanders who served and died in wars and peacekeeping missions. “Lest we forget”.

Honoured to welcome Taoiseach to Cyprus to attend the Informal Meeting of EU Heads of State and Government, under the 🇪🇺🇨🇾🇮🇪

Delighted to share that Lily Michaelides will be presenting her book in Ireland, at The James Joyce Centre Dublin on 28 April. Lily is a longtime collaborator of the Embassy and a valued member of Ideogramma, the group behind Bloomsday in Cyprus.
