At a panel discussion organized by the German Africa Foundation and the German Business Initiative for Sub-Saharan Africa (SAFRI), and opened by the Minister of State in the Foreign Office of Germany, Ms. Serap Güler, Ambassador Eskindir Yirga highlighted the significant contributions of the Ethiopia-German partnership.
Bilateral cooperation in technical and vocational education and training, as well as in sustainable economic development, was identified as making meaningful contributions. The Ambassador further suggested alignment of vocational training with emerging sectors such as renewable energy, Agro-processing, and digital services. The urgent need for stronger alignment between German policies and Africa’s own development frameworks was stressed.
This year’s reception in honor of the African Diplomatic Corps was themed “German-African Foreign Policy Relations – Shaping Joint Pathways in Security and Economic Cooperation”.

Ambassador Eskindir Yirga held a productive follow-up meeting with Benno Muchler, Head of Government Relations of the Giessecke+ Devrient (D+G) and its subsidiary company in Ethiopia, Veridos regarding the company’s joint venture agreement with Tibeb Group of Ethiopia; a business venture very much in alignment with Ethiopia’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 agenda.
The discussions focused on accelerating partnership in key areas of digital transformation, technology transfer, and industrial collaboration.
Particular emphasis was given to the role of D+G’s sister company, Veridos, in supporting digital government and public services transformation, industry and enterprise solutions, technology infrastructure development, and outsourcing services aimed at contributing to Ethiopia’s modernization and digitalization efforts.

A policy brief on Digital Ethiopia 2030.
Ethiopia is building digital sovereignty through national cloud infrastructure, a data authority, AI institutions, and continental leadership in artificial intelligence.
Under the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, it has already achieved 41 million digital ID registrations, expanded mobile money services, and integrated digital government services through Mesob One-Stop Centers and many more.
