As Brian & John themselves have shown, giving your time to support others can be one of life's most rewarding experiences.
Join us in wishing them a very happy 90th birthday and thanking them for their outstanding contribution to their community. 👏

Veteran twin brothers Brian and John are marking their 90th birthday and an incredible milestone – raising over £90,000 as long‑standing Poppy Appeal collectors.

Both brothers served in the British Army from 1956-1958 as part of National Service, with postings to Germany and the West Indies.

"In some of our old photographs in the Army, I can’t tell us apart!”

When they finished National Service, legal support from the RBL helped them regain their previous positions with their employer on full pay.

“It made a huge difference as otherwise we would have been unemployed.

“We are so pleased and proud to have collected over £90K in just the last nine years, to help many service men and women.”

Both twins describe their 30 years of volunteering as incredibly rewarding.

“If you are thinking of doing collecting, don’t hold back, it is so satisfying,” says John.

In a few weeks they’ll be celebrating their 90th birthday in style with all their friends and family.

Join us in wishing them a happy birthday 🥳

Life can change unexpectedly.

Recently, one of our clients' sons, who regularly supports and cares for his mother, found himself in hospital and then facing a period of rehabilitation at home. During that time, he was unable to provide the day-to-day support and reassurance she relied upon.

That's where our visiting care team stepped in.

We were able to support his mother with regular visits, medication prompts, and practical assistance, helping her remain safe, comfortable, and independent in her own home while her son focused on his recovery.

It's a reminder that care isn't only for long-term situations. Sometimes family carers need support too, whether due to illness, recovery, holidays, or unexpected changes in circumstances.

We're grateful for the kind words shared below:

"The knowledge that my mother was being kindly and efficiently cared for was of great comfort to both of us."💙

What’s it really like to be a live-in carer at Ashridge?

In our latest team spotlight, Debbie, our Live-in Care Manager, shares her journey from live-in carer to manager, explains how we carefully match carers and clients, and highlights the ongoing support our carers receive every step of the way.

When asked what advice she would give to someone considering a career in live-in care, Debbie's answer was simple:

"Go for it. While the role requires real dedication, it truly makes a difference in people’s lives and can, in turn, change your own."

If you're considering a rewarding career where you can make a genuine difference while being supported by an experienced team, this is a must-read. 😊💙

Over the years, we've supported many families through the summer months — whether that's providing live-in care while family carers take a well-earned break, supporting a loved one at home while relatives travel, or even helping clients enjoy holidays with the reassurance of professional care by their side.

What many people don't realise is just how flexible live-in care can be.

From short-term respite care to ongoing live-in support, care can be tailored around your family's plans and your loved one's needs.

One piece of advice we always give? Plan early.

Summer is one of the busiest times of year for care services, and arranging support ahead of time gives families more choice, greater peace of mind, and one less thing to worry about.

If you're thinking about a holiday, family event, or simply need some extra support this summer, we're here to help.💙

For many people, home is far more than just four walls. It’s familiarity. Comfort. Independence. Memories built over a lifetime. It’s the favourite chair by the window, family photographs on the wall, the comfort of routine, and the peace of being surrounded by the people and things you love most.

At Ashridge, we believe needing support shouldn’t mean giving these things up.
With the right care, many people can continue living safely and independently in the place where they feel happiest and most secure — their own home.💙

When carers have access to ongoing training, guidance, and support, they feel more confident in their roles and are better equipped to respond to the changing needs of the people they care for. This leads to safer, more compassionate, and more person-centred care.
For self-employed carers, maintaining this level of knowledge can be much more challenging without the structure, mentoring, and regular training opportunities that fully managed care providers can offer.

At Ashridge, we believe learning should never stop. From dementia awareness and end-of-life care to practical day-to-day support, we continue to invest in our team so they can provide the highest possible standard of care to the families who trust us.💜
