Chevening is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world. Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. There are over 50,000 alumni spread across the world who have benefited from a Chevening Scholarship or Fellowship since the programme began. What an incredible day welcoming our newest Cheveners 🌟

Last week, more than 700 scholars and fellows from around the globe came together in London to mark the start of their 2026-27 journey!

The excitement in the room was electric! Different cultures, experiences, and perspectives united by a shared goal of advancing positive change.

But this is just the beginning. Over the next year, these scholars and fellows will learn, grow, collaborate, and become part of a global network that spans more than 180 countries and territories.

This one idea has brought 28,000+ trees and 480 jobs to Nairobi 🌳👇

Chevening alumnus Ronny Mutua founded Miti Mitaani to tackle two challenges at once: urban environmental degradation and youth unemployment. The social enterprise pays young people and women to plant and care for trees in their communities. 💚

For Chawanangwa Nyirenda, Cardiff University was a natural fit. He wanted a practical university that would strengthen his data science expertise while allowing him to build on his experience in climate and environmental work.

Now in the UK, Chawanangwa is developing the skills and knowledge he needs to use data more effectively in tackling climate and sustainability challenges. Through Chevening, he is also connecting with a global network of leaders and changemakers committed to creating positive change.
