🎈Red Cross Garden is 20!
Red Cross Garden is an award winning open space which BOST (Bankside Open Spaces Trust) renovated and restored to its original Victorian layout in 2005.
Steeped in history it was built along with its neighbouring cottages in 1886. Designed by Octavia Hill - a social reformer and one of the three founders of The National Trust this park - this was her flagship project and at the time Red Cross Garden demonstrated the importance of improving housing for the poor and the need for meaningful occupations for poor workers.
The historic layout of Red Cross Garden was lost under municipal grass and tarmac by the late 1940s and became much underused.
BOST secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Southwark Council and restored many of the original features.
The garden is now regularly used for after-school clubs, poetry readings, celebrations, and events.

We are proud to support our local LGBTQ+ communities throughout the year. To celebrate Pride Month, we've raised the Pride Progress flag at our offices on Tooley Street, and it will be flying proudly throughout June. 🏳️🌈
Southwark has one of the largest LGBTQI+ populations in London, and it's important to us to help celebrate the incredible contributions this community makes to the borough, to recognise their history and to make sure they are supported and seen, now and in the future.
The Southwark Pride fund supports the borough’s LGBTQI+ communities to create events that celebrate le***an, gay, bisexual transgender and q***r identity and the culture, histories and rights of these communities. A fund of £30,000 has been split to support the events, which will be taking place from Pride Month in June and throughout the summer.
One of these events is the annual Southwark Pride march on Saturday 27 June. The march starts from the Southwark LGBTQ+ Centre (SE1 9JH) at 12noon and will end at Mint Street Park where there will be a community event from 1pm to 6pm. Book your place via the link in the comments below.
We’ll be promoting our Pride Fund events on our Southwark Presents webpages and social media channels throughout the summer so keep your eye out for details.

Today marks the ninth anniversary of the London Bridge and Borough Market terror attack, where eight people lost their lives.
Our thoughts today are with the victims, their families and everyone who was, and still is, affected by this terrible event.
What connects Glastonbury with Southwark?
Wes Wight - who grew up in Glastonbury but now works as a Library Officer in Southwark - will be leading a tour from Dulwich Library to Nunhead cemetery to explain the connection.
His tour is part of this year’s Festival of Words, with events for adults and children taking place from Thursday 4 to Saturday 6 June.
Head to the link in our bio to see all events.
