The Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project (SARP) successfully completed Day 04 of the IFAD Supervision Mission, exploring the highly productive agricultural landscapes of the Kurunegala and Matale districts. The day’s journey further highlighted the monumental impact of resilient infrastructure and strategic market integrations on rural communities. The mission thoroughly reviewed the extensive rehabilitation of crucial village tanks and the ongoing construction of vital rural feeder roads, ensuring that farming communities are well-equipped with reliable water sources and clear paths to commercial markets. Shifting focus towards agricultural innovation and sustainability, the visits beautifully showcased robust public-private market linkages, where high-value agricultural produce is seamlessly connected to major retail chains, thereby significantly minimizing post-harvest losses and maximizing farmer income. Furthermore, the mission observed flourishing, technology-driven chili cultivations under semi-protected houses managed by young entrepreneurs, successful climate-resilient groundnut fields, and diverse, nutritive-rich home gardens that strongly support household food security. Witnessing these modernized, climate-smart farming models and secure commercial partnerships actively transforming the rural economy is a powerful indicator that Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector is moving towards a resilient and prosperous future. 🇱🇰✨
