Recently, the Ghajn Centre welcomed Year 5 students from St. Clare College, Madonna tal-Mensija Primary School, San Ġwann, to Chadwick Lakes for a series of educational visits. 💧🌱

During their visit, the students explored the freshwater habitat of Wied il-Qliegħa (Chadwick Lakes Trail), learning about the diverse plants and animals that depend on this unique ecosystem. They also visited the historic Fiddien Box, a structure once used to distribute water, and took part in a fieldwork activity along the Chadwick Lakes Trail. 🐸

By experiencing nature firsthand, the students gained a deeper understanding of freshwater ecosystems, the importance of biodiversity, and Malta’s rich water heritage.

The Energy and Water Agency continues to strengthen local outreach through the LocAll4Flood project by raising awareness and encouraging collaboration on risk management for flash floods and climate adaptation in Malta. Through community activities, educational outreach, and collaboration with European initiatives, the project helps communities become better prepared for the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.

As part of these efforts, the project collaborated with the LANDS Erasmus+ and URWAN Interreg Euro-MED projects during a multi-stakeholder meeting on urban resilience and sustainable development. Representatives from local councils, public authorities, educators, and environmental stakeholders discussed Nature-based Solutions (NbS), community engagement, and participatory approaches for more resilient urban environments.

LocAll4Flood also took part in Earth Day activities through an awareness session at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Malta, focusing on sustainable water use and flood resilience. Participants learned about water consumption, leak detection, home water audits, rainwater harvesting and other practical water-saving measures to better utilise rainwater.

Educational outreach also continued through school visits and dissemination sessions at Għajn, where flash flood awareness materials and exhibitions were shared with students and visitors to encourage preparedness and climate resilience.
