The Voice of Business The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry is an autonomous institution, recognised by the Laws of Malta.

Membership is open to any form of commercial enterprise in or from Malta. Its main objective is to promote and protect business interests. It is the policy of the Malta Chamber to promote free competitive enterprise by supporting, or, if need be, resisting any laws and regulations affecting business interests. The Chamber was set up as a voluntary constituted body and officially recognised in 1848. In 1857, the Exchange Buildings, constructed on its present site in Republic Street, Valletta, which was granted to the Chamber in perpetual lease by the Government, was inaugurated. The building is the work of architect Giuseppe Bonavia. Through the years, the Malta Chamber has kept a close watch on developments in the field of commerce, giving advice to Government on commercial legislation and related matters and intervening in the interest of its members and the nation whenever necessary. The Malta Chamber co-operates with other Institutions and, in its main national activities, works closely with kindred organisations as the occasion demands. The Chamber keeps close contact with similar foreign organisations. It is a Member of the International Chamber of Commerce, BusinessEurope, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Eurochambres) and the Assembly of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce (ASCAME).

The President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce William Spiteri Bailey has told The Malta Independent on Sunday that the government's new measures relating to Third Country Nationals do not appear to be "sufficiently calibrated" to achieving the economic transformation that the country needs.

The measures announced in Budget 2027 for Third-Country Nationals (TCNs) fall short of the careful planning and calibration required. We have consistently supported rigorous, evidence-based initiatives, notably the national Labour Migration Policy, developed through months of constructive social consultation to better manage labour migration.

We are therefore concerned that these measures were announced without prior stakeholder consultation or a comprehensive socio-economic impact assessment. While recognising the need for a well-regulated labour market, decisions affecting business costs, labour availability and competitiveness should be evidence-informed and developed through genuine social dialogue before they are introduced.

In his opening address, The Malta Chamber President emphasised that digital transformation must go hand in hand with trust, cybersecurity and resilience. Technology is not the end goal. 🗣️ Understand the reality: Louise Calleja, Assistant Commissioner, Malta Police Force, discussed the different forms of violence victims experience and how these continue to evolve.

🤝 Turn awareness into action: A panel discussion, moderated by Rachel Bondi Attard, Head – Media and Communications Strategist at The Malta Chamber, explored how employers and HR professionals can recognise, support and protect employees experiencing gender-based violence.
