Search & Rescue Unit - Order of Malta

Yesterday we had a fantastic training session on awareness and preparedness for missing persons cases involving individuals living with dementia. 🧠

Led by Daniel, we covered how to assess and approach patients, communication strategies, key risks, and what to expect in these sensitive situations. The kind of training that truly makes a difference when it matters most. 💙

A big thank you to Daniel for making such a complex topic so accessible and actionable.

Last weekend, we had the honour of attending the Lourdes pilgrimage as first responders. Although the job itself was not physically demanding on us, we can sincerely say it was emotionally intense and deeply moving.

Seeing everyone participate in shifts, or helping in any way they could to support Our Lords the Sick and give them a memorable weekend, was truly inspiring.

A big thank you to the organizers, the Order of Malta, H. E. Michael Grech, Baroncino Michael Trapani Galea Feriol, Honorary Member Edward Briffa, Harald Østfelt Heeringa, Simon Briffa, Andreea Chiriță, Father Jean Gove', Honorary Member Bryan Wubbels and everyone who took part in this miraculous movement.

This weekend reminded us to always be kind, respectful, and to keep an open heart.

On Tuesday morning our Unit Leader Simon Briffa, together with our Deputy Search Manager Daniel Casingena, and our Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee Alfonso Reisang Tolomeo, had the pleasure to meet the Director General of the Civil Protection Malta Department, Mr Peter Paul Coleiro.

Some very positive talks were carried out, strengthening the relationship between the two organisations and we will have the opportunity to collaborate more in future.

This is where it starts.

That win is helping us move forward, but we’re building something bigger.

Our goal remains clear:
a fully equipped Rapid Response Vehicle for our team. 🚨

This is why we stepped onto that stage.

Our hearts are full of gratitude for everyone who joined us and made this event so special. This occasion was more than just a ceremony, it was a reminder of our shared purpose, unity and commitment to serve.
