Some of our search and rescue team have four legs, and yesterday they flew to Crete with the rest of us 🐕

We changed planes in Athens and landed in Heraklion for Talos 2026, an international search and rescue exercise, and the Εθελοντική ομάδα «Επίδρασις» team were waiting for us at arrivals.

Training starts today. Our unit leader Simon Briffa recorded a short update last night, it's on the last slide.

Malta → Crete ✈️ Our search and rescue volunteers fly out on Thursday for Talos 2026, an international search and rescue exercise.

We'll be training with international rescue teams. The exercise is organised by Εθελοντική ομάδα «Επίδρασις» and supported by Visit Malta, and we're grateful to both for having us 🇲🇹🇬🇷

Inside the joint training exercise with Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit

When every second counts, our elite volunteers rise to the challenge. 💪 This intensive cliff rescue exercise united the Order of Malta SAR Unit and E.F.R.U's Canine 🐕, Tracking 🔍, Medical 🩹, and Drone 🚁 teams in a race against time to locate, stabilize and evacuate a casualty.

A gift crafted in Malta, for the guest of honour. ❤️

During his visit to our Search & Rescue Unit, H.E. Dr. Josef D. Blotz, Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta, was presented with a ceramic plate bearing the eight-pointed cross of the Order, by our Unit Leader, Simon Briffa. 🎁

A heartfelt thank you to Mediterranean Ceramics for their craftsmanship, creating this beautiful piece and for supporting our Unit. A gift that carries both Maltese heritage and the spirit of our Order. ✨️

Five years of service. One unforgettable evening. ✨

On the occasion of our 5th Anniversary, members, benefactors and friends gathered at The Xara Lodge to celebrate half a decade of the Search & Rescue Unit, honoured by the presence of H.E. Dr. Josef D. Blotz, Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

We were privileged to hear addresses from H.E. Dr. Michael Grech, MASMOM President; The Noble Baroncino Michael Trapani Galea Feriol, Unit President; Simon Briffa, Unit Leader; and The Very Rev. Mgr Brendan Gatt, MASMOM Principal Chaplain.

An honour to welcome H.E. the Grand Hospitaller.

The Search and Rescue Unit of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta was deeply privileged to host H.E. Dr. Josef D. Blotz, the Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta, during our recent specialised training deployment.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase our operational capabilities, including our 🐾 canine search teams, 🚁 drone reconnaissance, and emergency 🚑 medical response. His Excellency joined our volunteers on the field, witnessing firsthand the dedication, readiness, and rigorous standards our team maintains to support in times of need.
