🚨 SAN JOSE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STRENGTHENS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS THROUGH ACTIVE THREAT/ATTACK SAFETY DRILL 🚨

Preparedness is one of the most effective ways to protect our school community.

On October 27, 2026, San Jose National High School successfully conducted its Active Threat/Attack Awareness and Preparedness Drill, reinforcing the school's commitment to creating a safe, secure, and resilient learning environment for all.

The drill equipped learners, teachers, and non-teaching personnel with practical knowledge and essential response strategies during active threat situations. By practicing the Run, Hide, Fight protocol and other emergency procedures, participants strengthened their confidence, awareness, and ability to respond appropriately during critical incidents.

This successful activity was made possible through the unwavering support and collaboration of the Anda Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Barangay Police of San Jose, Anda, Pangasinan. Their expertise and guidance played a vital role in making the simulation realistic, informative, and meaningful.

San Jose National High School extends its sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, faculty members, staff, learners, and partner agencies whose cooperation and commitment contributed to the success of this initiative.

Prepared today. Protected tomorrow.
Together, let us continue to foster a culture of vigilance, preparedness, and shared responsibility—because a safer school begins with every one of us.

Symposium on Learner Safety and Security 🛡️
Guest of Honor and Speaker: Police Major Regin E. Cabico Chief of ANDA MPS 👮‍♂️🚔
San Jose National Highschool 🏫
San Jose, Anda, Pangasinan 📍
October 21, 2026 🗓️

Introductory Activities

School safety and security have always been the concerns of schools (Alordiah et al., 2025). Since awareness of such concerns is essential in developing safety protocols (Astor et al., 2005), San Jose National High School, in partnership with the Anda Police Station headed by PMAJ Regin E. Cabico, Chief of Police, conducted a symposium on learner safety and security on October 21, 2026. Pressing issues and important points were discussed such as what to do in cases of active shootings and the authorities to notify if such events happen. The symposium started with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a prayer and the singing of the Pangasinan Hymn. Mr. Alex M. Mamaril, school head, gave an opening remarks which was then followed by Ms. Ma. Fatima C. Abangan, a Senior High School Teacher and the event’s emcee, introducing the symposium’s lecturer, Anda Police Station’s Chief of Police.

Symposium Proper

The lecture on school safety and security was led by PMAJ Regin E. Cabico, Chief of Police of Anda Police Station. He started by accounting a shooting event that happened at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City and warned everyone about how pressing it is to revisit and relearn safety protocols. The highlights of his talk were three words everyone must remember should such event take place at school: (1) Run; (2) Hide; and (3) Fight. He stressed the importance of a contingency plan and urged everyone to look for the safest routes, e.g., exit halls and gates, when the need arises. Further, he reminded everyone to stay calm while hiding from possible attacks. Finally, he encouraged the audience that if there is no resort left, one must fight back and use any utility at one’s disposal to protect himself or herself.
Chief Cabico also gave the opportunity for the audience to clarify concerns and ask questions to which two Senior High School students presented some queries. A Grade 11 student asked, “[I]n case one was unable to follow the safety protocols due to panic attack, what should we do?” He answered saying that we should help the person relax and call for help immediately. A Grade 12 student raised his hand and asked, “[W]hat if the whole perimeter was surrounded by armed people and there is no way out; what is the most appropriate action to do?” Chief Cabico told the student to proceed to the safest place available and wait for the responders to do the appropriate actions.
The talk ended with the provision of contact information of authorities to notify should there be an accident and reminding everyone that in such circumstances, one’s priority should be survival.

Concluding Activities

If the learning environment is safe and secured, the well-being of the students, school personnel, and local community is promoted (Mubita, 2021). The event ended with the closing remarks of Mr. Ivan Ray C. Boton, a Senior High School teacher and the school’s Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction Management (DRRRM) Coordinator, and with the personnel of both San Jose National High School and of Anda Police Station affixing their signatures on the Panata ng Buong Komunidad para sa mas Ligtas na Paaralan. This symposium provided everyone with a renewed drive to promote safety and security.

Launching of National School Safety Week 🇵🇭🏫
Panata ng Buong Komunidad Para sa Mas Ligtas na Paaralan
To our beloved SJNHS Family — students, teachers, staff, parents, and community:
Today, we raised our hands together and spoke with one voice. This is not just a pledge we recite — it is a promise we make to each other, to our school, and to every heart that calls SJNHS home. 🤝✨
Sabay-sabay tayong tumindig: nangangakong gagawin nating ligtas ang bawat pasilyo, mapayapa ang bawat silid-aralan, at puno ng pag-asa ang bawat araw dito sa ating paaralan.
We stand as one: to make every corner safe, every classroom peaceful, and every day here filled with hope.
Ang kaligtasan ay hindi lang gawain ng iilan — ito ay pagmamahal na ibinibigay nating lahat. It is looking out for one another, lifting each other up, and protecting our SJNHS family like our own. 💚
This week is just the beginning. Let this promise live in our actions, in our kindness, and in how we care for one another — today, tomorrow, and always.
SJNHS — One Family. One Promise. One Safe Home. ✨

NATIONAL SCHOOL SAFETY WEEK: OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED 🇵🇭🏫
We officially kicked off our observance of the National School Safety Week in full alignment with DepEd Memorandum No. 0394, s. 2026, beginning with the solemn Flag Raising Ceremony — exactly as the memorandum directs, opening simultaneously across all schools nationwide.
The ceremony was followed by meaningful messages from our valued school and community leaders, each speaking to the roles the memorandum clearly identifies:
First, Hon. Anthony Armington, Punong Barangay of San Jose, represented barangay officials — explicitly listed in the memo as key partners. His message reinforced local government’s vital role in ensuring safety, order, and the protection of every learner, at the very heart of the ESMELE framework.
Next, Ms. Arline Salvador, Brgy. Health Worker Head, stood for barangay health workers, named in the memorandum as essential stakeholders. She emphasized health, hygiene, and the promotion of safe learning environments — fully aligning with the memo’s call for comprehensive health and safety protection.
Then, Rev. Pastor Gelmor Catap, SPTA President, represented parents and guardians, whom the memorandum highlights as primary partners. His message strengthened family and community engagement, a cornerstone of sustained school safety as outlined in the guidelines.
Afterward, Dr. Dandy Biocarles, Faculty President, represented school personnel — the group directed by the memorandum to lead safety implementation within our premises. He affirmed the school’s unwavering commitment to protect learners and uphold safe, inclusive, and conducive learning spaces for all.
Leading our school administration, Sir Alex Mamaril, School Principal IV, delivered his message underscoring the school’s central leadership in carrying out the memorandum’s directives. As the school head, he affirmed the whole-school approach, guided the community in embracing shared responsibility, and pledged full commitment to implementing all safety measures, programs, and partnerships to ensure a secure and nurturing environment for every learner.
Our meaningful program drew to a close as Sir Mark Angelo Aclan, Social Science Teacher from the SJNHS High School Department, led the entire assembly in the unified recitation of the Panata ng Buong Komunidad Para sa Mas Ligtas na Paaralan — the official pledge from Annex A of the memorandum — sealing our shared promise that safety is the responsibility of every single one of us.
Together, as one community, we stand for a safer school where every learner thrives. 💙✨
