South Cotabato, pinakamabilis na lumalagong ekonomiya sa SOCCSKSARGEN

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato - Ipinahayag ni Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. ang kumpiyansa na magpapatuloy at lalo pang lalakas ang economic momentum ng South Cotabato sa 2027 dahil sa mas maayos na pamamahala, matibay na ugnayan sa pribadong sektor, at patuloy na paglago ng mga industriya sa lalawigan.

Sa regular na “Meet the Press” briefing noong Mayo 25, sinabi ni Tamayo na nakapagtala ang South Cotabato ng 6.9 porsyentong Gross Domestic Product o GDP growth rate, dahilan upang maging pinakamabilis na lumalagong ekonomiya sa rehiyon ng SOCCSKSARGEN.

Mas mataas din ito kumpara sa regional at national growth averages, na ayon sa gobernador ay patunay ng “broad-based and inclusive” development sa lalawigan.

“𝘕𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢, 𝘥𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘭 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘬𝘢-𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘻𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘋𝘗 𝘯𝘢 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘯𝘢 6.9%. 𝘐𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘬𝘪𝘵𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘴,” ayon kay Tamayo.

Iniuugnay ng gobernador ang economic growth sa sama-samang pagtutulungan ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno, negosyante, investors, at pribadong sektor. Aniya, malaking tulong ang mga development programs at investments upang mapalakas ang economic performance ng lalawigan.

Ayon pa kay Tamayo, halos pantay ang paglago sa agriculture, services, at industrial sectors, na indikasyon ng isang matatag at diversified economy. Gayunman, binigyang-diin nito na nananatiling may malaking potensyal ang agrikultura at ito pa rin ang pangunahing prayoridad ng pamahalaang panlalawigan.

Patuloy ding pinalalakas ng lalawigan ang modernisasyon sa pagsasaka, pagpapalawak ng market access ng mga lokal na magsasaka, at paghikayat ng investments sa agri-based industries upang makalikha ng mas maraming oportunidad lalo na sa mga rural communities.

Umaasa rin si Tamayo na mas lalo pang gaganda ang GDP performance ng lalawigan sa susunod na taon sa tulong ng mga bagong infrastructure projects, investments, at business collaborations.

Hinimok din nito ang business community na ipagpatuloy ang healthy competition at innovation dahil mahalaga umano ang aktibong partisipasyon ng mga negosyante at investors para sa pangmatagalang paglago ng ekonomiya.

Sa patuloy na paglago ng ekonomiya at pagdami ng investments, inaasahang lalo pang titibay ang posisyon ng South Cotabato bilang isa sa pangunahing economic hubs sa Mindanao.

The 2026 South Cotabato Federation of Local Chambers of Commerce Conference, held on May 23, 2026 at Habi Hotel, City of Koronadal, underscored the province’s continuing efforts to strengthen public–private collaboration and sustain inclusive economic growth initiatives.

A key highlight of the event was the Governor’s Hour featuring Hon. Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., who presented updates on South Cotabato’s improving economic performance and sustained Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth. He emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to inclusive development and long-term sustainable growth strategies.

Business leaders, chamber officers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders from across South Cotabato gathered for the event, which served as a platform for dialogue, partnership-building, and alignment of key economic priorities.

Following the successful conclusion of the 2026 South Cotabato Business Week, a fellowship meal was held in appreciation of the dedicated efforts of the SCEIPC and SCEEMO offices in delivering the week-long event.

The gathering served as recognition of the commitment and diligence demonstrated by both offices in the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs that meaningfully engaged participants and stakeholders across the province.

SCEIPC and SCEEMO likewise extend their sincere gratitude to all offices, partner agencies, and stakeholders for their valuable contributions, time, and unwavering support, which made the success of Business Week 2026 possible. Food preservation is more than a skill—it is a pathway to livelihood, sustainability, and economic resilience.

As part of the 2026 South Cotabato Business Week celebration, DTI South Cotabato, through the Simultaneous DTI Negosyo Center Training Activities and in partnership with the South Cotabato Economic and Investments Promotion Center, conducted a Seminar on Food Preservation Techniques on May 21, 2026 at GB Farm, Purok Imelda, Poblacion, Norala, South Cotabato.

The seminar equipped participants from the local community and MSME sector with practical knowledge on food preservation, proper food handling, and value-adding practices that help enhance product quality, reduce waste, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Through initiatives like this, government agencies continue to champion entrepreneurship and inclusive economic development at the grassroots level.

𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 — 𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐨

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Sucayan Tamayo Jr. expressed optimism over the continued economic growth of South Cotabato, saying residents can expect stronger economic performance next year as the provincial government strengthens governance and expands partnerships with the private and business sectors.

Speaking during his regular “Meet the Press” briefing on Monday, May 25, Tamayo highlighted the province’s 6.9 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate, which positioned the province as the fastest-growing economy in the SOCCSKSARGEN region, exceeding both regional and national averages.

“Napakaganda, dahil nakaka-amaze iyong GDP na meron tayo na 6.9. Isa ito sa pinakamataas sa buong rehiyon at makikita rin ang pag-angat nito sa buong Pilipinas,” Tamayo said.

The governor attributed the province’s strong economic performance to the cooperation among government agencies, businesses, and the private sector. He noted that growth has been balanced across agriculture, services, and industries, although agriculture still holds significant potential for further development.

“Iyong pag-angat halos pantay sa agriculture, services, at industries. Pero makikita natin na malaki pa ang room for improvement sa agriculture, at iyon naman ang malaking potensyal ng South Cotabato,” he added.

Tamayo also projected better economic results in the coming year and encouraged the business community to continue fostering healthy competition to further boost the province’s economy.

"Ibig sabihin, by next year, gaganda pa lalo ang GDP natin. Mayroon pang room para mas mapaganda ang GDP natin."
