HAPPY FIESTA STO. CRISTO!

In a spirit of faith, thanksgiving, and unity, the devotees gathered for the Concelebrated Fiesta Mass in honor of our beloved Señor Sto. Cristo, presided over by Rev. Fr. Lyndon Balubar, Vicar Forane of the Vicariate of St. Gregory the Great, Parish Priest of Albay Cathedral and Chairman of the Commission on Christian Education, together with Rev. Fr. Jonnathan Calleja, Administrator of Sto. Cristo Quasi-Parish, and Rev. Fr. Jun Barquez of St. Raphael Parish.

In his homily, Fr. Balubar beautifully reflected on the Patronal Fiesta theme, “Biniyayaan, Inaantabayan, asin Sinusugo,” which is aligned with the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the Diocese of Legazpi. He emphasized that as God’s people, we are blessed by His abundant grace, guided by His loving presence, and sent forth to become instruments of His mission in the world. He challenged the faithful to live out this calling through a life of faith, service, and active participation in the mission of the Church.

As we celebrate the Feast of Sto. Cristo, may we continue to draw strength from His love and mercy, ever grateful for His blessings, steadfast in faith, and committed to sharing the Good News with others.

“ATOD”, the Sto. Cristo Grand Maritime Procession: The culminating activity of the 9-days Novenary masses in honor of our beloved patron Sto. Cristo, and the “Katapusan” of the 9-nights Santacruzan.

This is highlighted by the bringing back of the visiting images of the patron saints of the neighboring coastal barangays by land and sea.

Photos show the traditional “Pagpasan kay Sto. Cristo” starting with Punong Barangay and concurrent PPC Lay Co-Chairman Glenn J. Barcelon, and followed interchangeably by the devotees.

“ATOD” STO. CRISTO GRAND MARITIME PROCESSION.

The “Atod” Sto. Cristo Grand Maritime Procession is a cherished annual tradition of Barangay Dap-Dap, Legazpi City, symbolizing faith, unity, and thanksgiving among the coastal communities devoted to the beloved Sto. Cristo. The term “Atod” refers to the bringing back of the images of the patron saints from the neighboring barangays and sitios that participated in the “Sabat” Procession on May 29 and stayed overnight at Sto. Cristo Quasi-Parish.

This sacred tradition began in 1997 with the participation of thirteen neighboring coastal barangays and sitios: San Roque, Baybay, Pigcale, Sabang, Binanuahan 21 & 22, Victory Village Nos. 27 and 28, Puro, Sitios San Isidro and Guinapahan, Camella Special Community, and Dap-Dap as the host barangay. For nearly three decades, the procession has served as a powerful expression of gratitude for God’s blessings, particularly those bestowed upon the fishing communities and their families.

Now on its 29th year, the “Atod” Maritime Procession stands as one of the highlights of the Sto. Cristo Festival, which was formally established in 2001 as a testament to the growing faith and devotion of the people to the miraculous Sto. Cristo.

The tradition gained even greater significance when the Sto. Cristo Chapel was declared a Mission Church in 2021 and later elevated to Sto. Cristo Quasi-Parish in 2024 by our beloved Bishop of Legazpi, Most Rev. Joel Z. Baylon, DD. Through the years, and with the unwavering support and leadership of our Quasi-Parish Administrator, Jonnathan Calleja, in partnership with Dap-Dap Barangay Council and the Barangay Pastoral Council, both headed by Punong Bgy. Glenn J. Barcelon, the celebration has continued to grow, drawing more devotees and strengthening the bonds of faith among the participating communities.

As we celebrate the 29th “Atod” Grand Sto. Cristo Maritime Procession, we honor a legacy of devotion that has united generations and continues to inspire countless faithful to entrust their lives, hopes, and thanksgiving to our beloved Sto. Cristo. May this sacred tradition continue to flourish and guide our communities toward deeper faith, unity, and service to God.
