Honoring a Legacy of Excellence: Happy Retirement, Syed Ishtiaq Hussain
Today, we mark the conclusion of a remarkable era as Syed Ishtiaq Hussain officially retires. His career has been defined by unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and a profound commitment to the development of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Over the years, Syed Ishtiaq Hussain has been the driving force behind a vast portfolio of transformative initiatives. From the Annual Development Programs (ADP) of 2019-20 through to 2025-26, he successfully developed, navigated and completed numerous new and targeted schemes. Namely
1. Training/Capacity Building of Para Vety Staff & Livestock Farmers in GB
2. Establishment Of Experimental Dairy Farm For Promotion of Local Jersey Breed In Baltistan
3. Strengthening of poultry through PPP mode district Hunza.
4. Up-Gradation/Provision Of Missing Facilities Of Livestock In Various Places In Skardu Halqa-II
5. Promotion of Poultry Activities/ Breed Imp. of Poultry in GB.
6. Establishment of Animal Disease Reporting & Surveillance System in Gilgit-Baltistan
7. Breed Improvement Program Through Natural Crossing/Artificial Insemination In 10 Districts Of GB
8. Promotion of Dairy Activities in Gilgit-Baltistan (Ph-I, II & III)
9. Strengthening of Poultry Services Involving Private Sector in Gilgit-Region Phase-II i.e Rehabilitation of Vet. Hospital at Gilgit
10. Extending Vet. Ambulance Services in GB
11. Development of Yak at High Altitude Areas of Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan (Phase I & II)
12. Strengthening of Breeding Services in GB
13. Effective Control of Ecto & Endo Parasites in Livestock GB. (Phase I & II)
14. Const. of Vet. Dispensaries at Sharot, Hupok,Goharabad, Borth, Ishkoman and Purchase of 03 Vet. Mobile Dispensaries. (Phase I & II)
15. Estab. of Cattle Shed and Purchase of Milk Cows at Jaglote.
16. Establishment of Livestock Setup and Rural Development through Commercial Poultry Farming in Shigar
17. Establishment of Small Ruminate Farm in Taus Tehsil Yasin
And various Project Schemes on Construction of more than 30 Veterinary Dispensaries and 5 Veterinary Hospitals in all districts of Gilgit Baltistan.
These projects—ranging from critical infrastructure, Veterinary Ambulatory Services, Dairy Development, Poultry Development and sector-specific advancements—have fundamentally strengthened the landscape of our region.

Beyond the technical success of his projects, it is his approach to leadership that truly sets him apart:

He viewed his staff as a family, fostering a culture of professional growth, mutual respect, and collective achievement.
His strategic contributions to the livestock and development sectors have laid a foundation that will benefit Gilgit-Baltistan for generations to come.
As he transitions into this new chapter of life, we express our deepest gratitude. His services, his character, and his legacy of hard work will be remembered forever.

On 27th April 2026, Mr. Rahim Gul formally assumed the charge of Secretary, Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Department, Gilgit-Baltistan, marking the commencement of his leadership and continuity of governance within the department.

Mr. Rahim Gul has formally assumed the charge of Secretary, Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Department, Gilgit-Baltistan, while Mr. Muhammad Azam Khan has relinquished the charge of the said post, on 27th April 2026.
