By 2030, three in four Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) students will graduate with overseas experience.

That ambition is taking shape through SEA Unbound, our new initiative that turns Southeast Asia into a living classroom supported by a growing SEA Partners Network that opens doors to opportunities across the region.

From Jakarta to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, students are stepping into real-world environments, building regional networks, and learning what it means to work, adapt and collaborate beyond Singapore.

🎥 Catch a glimpse of what SEA Unbound looks like.

With disruption now the norm, HR leaders are stepping up to help organisations adapt and stay resilient.

In a recent masterclass co-hosted with Institute for Human Resource Professionals, we brought together experts from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s specialised centres to examine a shared challenge: how can organisations build and sustain workforce resilience in a constantly changing landscape?

The discussions approached change from a whole-system perspective, exploring:
• Resilience-building to strengthen organisational readiness
• Human-centred innovation as an approach to tackling complex challenges
• Behavioural insights and nudge design to influence meaningful, everyday change

At its core, the session equipped participants to approach change differently, not just at the level of strategy, but in the everyday realities of how people work, decide and adapt.

We thank IHRP for their continued partnership and to all participating HR professionals for their thoughtful engagement.

Southeast Asia is changing quickly and so are the opportunities emerging across the region.

Today, Ngee Ann Polytechnic launched SEA Unbound, our Southeast Asia Readiness Strategy, to help students build the skills, networks and confidence to navigate a future that will increasingly extend beyond Singapore.

SEA Unbound brings together NP’s efforts to give students deeper exposure to the region through overseas programmes, industry projects, partnerships and immersive experiences across Southeast Asia.

Some of these efforts include:
• SAIL and SOAR overseas programmes, where students gain first-hand exposure in Southeast Asia through industry projects, cultural immersion, and on-the-ground learning.
• A growing SEA Partners Network of universities, corporations and government agencies including Frasers Property, UOB, Emtek (PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi Tbk) and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi.
• Overseas centres in Jakarta, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, which serve as regional hubs for student programmes, partnerships and industry engagement.

We were also honoured to have Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry, Ms Gan Siow Huang join us at today’s launch.

Thank you to our partners, advisory panel members, staff and students for your support in making this launch possible!

For Lim Li Tong and Don Koo Hong Bin, the road to graduation was shaped as much by setbacks as it was by success.

After narrowly missing the grades needed for NP’s Early Childhood Development & Education programme, Li Tong worked her way through ITE before eventually earning a place in the course two years later. Through her internship at Rainbow Centre, she discovered a deeper calling supporting children with special needs and has since accepted a full-time role there.

For Don, motivation did not come easily in secondary school until a tutor’s encouragement helped him begin believing in himself. At NP, as part of his year-long internship at Singapore General Hospital, he later developed FlyGPT, an AI tool designed to help researchers track and count fruit flies more efficiently during experiments to support Parkinson’s disease research. The motivated Biomedical Science student graduated with both the Lee Kuan Yew Award and the NP Outstanding Achievement Award earlier this month.

What does it take for companies to adopt smart manufacturing with confidence? It starts with the ability to test, learn and build capabilities, before scaling.

At NP, we’re working with Siemens and Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to help companies do exactly that – through a smart manufacturing platform where SMEs can trial automation solutions before committing, reducing risk and accelerating Industry 4.0 adoption.

At the same time, we’re building the talent to power this shift. Our stackable Specialist Diploma in Smart Manufacturing enables engineers and professionals to develop AI and automation capabilities, progressively and in line with industry needs.

From digital twins to AI-driven systems and hands-on training, we’re creating practical pathways for businesses to innovate, and for people to lead that transformation.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS🚨: local student teams-ed lecturer about the assignment, class awaits updates

22/05/2026

At the South West Community Inno Lab showcase earlier this week, our NP students presented one of 10 student-led projects developed to address community challenges across the South West District.

Their solution: an Automated Rodenticide Targeting System that uses AI to detect rats even in dim settings, while incorporating safety features to prevent other animals from entering the trap.

Developed in response to rising rodent sightings in estates, the system taps on the natural grooming behaviour of rats to help spread rodenticide back to their burrows, where their colonies reside. The team also partnered the National Environment Agency and Housing & Development Board to administer their traps.

Launched in 2024, the South West Community Inno Lab brings together the South West Community Development Council and nine institutes of higher learning, giving students the opportunity to apply their skills to real community needs, from pest control and waste management to accessibility and energy conservation.

Well done to our students for showing how innovation can begin with observing everyday problems, and asking how they can be solved better with practical solutions.

What does it mean to be a Campus for Good? At NP, it means using our campus as more than a place of learning. It is also a platform where students, staff and partners come together to respond to real needs, test ideas and create practical impact beyond the classroom.

Through collaborations with partners such as City Developments Limited (CDL), Singtel and Dignity Kitchen , NP supports initiatives that benefit employees, seniors and vulnerable communities, while giving students opportunities to contribute through applied learning and ground-up problem solving.

These partnerships are not one-off projects. They evolve over time, shaped by the communities they serve and focused on practical, sustainable solutions that make a meaningful difference.

Congratulations to our Principal & CEO, Mr Kok Kiang Lim, on receiving the Medal of Commendation at the NTUC May Day Awards 2026.

Mr Lim is among 28 recipients of the Medal of Commendation this year. The award recognises senior management personnel within the Labour Movement network who have contributed to improving workers’ wages, welfare and work prospects.

We are grateful to the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Academic Staff Union (NPASU) for the nomination, and for the strong spirit of collaboration that has shaped this recognition.

Over the years, NP has built a close partnership with both NPASU and the Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers’ Union (SMMWU), working together to support our staff’s growth, well-being and development.

This work is sustained by how we show up as one team each day, doing our part to support our staff and learners. In that spirit, this award is a meaningful recognition not only of Mr Lim, but also the collective efforts of our staff community, unions and partners who have contributed to what NP is today.

We also celebrate all NTUC May Day Awards 2026 recipients, who continue to show what it means to care for workers and support their progress! A special mention as well to our Council Chairman, Mr Kuan Moon Yuen, on receiving the Medal of Commendation (Gold) this year.

Our Business Studies graduate Leong Xuhui turned his love for baked potatoes into Spudzilla, a growing food business now popping up at pasar malams and events across Singapore!

What started as a side hustle inspired by a secondary school snack has grown into a real business, shaped through trial, error and plenty of hands-on learning. At NP, Xuhui sharpened his approach to branding and marketing through his diploma course, and platforms like our Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) competition.

As Xuhui put it, “Branding is what customers see and remember about you. So it’s important that they can clearly link your food to your brand.” This mindset continues to shape Spudzilla’s growth, from tapping social media trends to collaborating with a fellow NP student on his signboard.

Now working towards opening a permanent stall, Xuhui has come a long way, and we’ll be rooting for what’s next.

In a world of constant change, lasting impact depends not just on strategy, but on understanding human behaviour.

That is the gap NP’s Centre for Behaviour and Nudge Design (BaND) is helping organisations address.

Its 11-week Certificate in Behaviour and Nudge Design Programme, co-developed with EY, gives HR professionals, people managers, marketers and innovators a practical, IHRP-recognised pathway to move from concept to practice. Participants can also work on a real-life Behaviour Design Project, with support from BaND coaches and Abbi, an AI-enabled behavioural insights coach.

Singapore’s only applied course in this space is also recognised by Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) through the Behavioural Transformation Architect role badge, and supported by up to 90% SkillsFuture funding.

Meet our Banking & Finance students Ocean Cheng and Dary Ong, who were recently in The Straits Times for how they are approaching investing amid today’s market volatility.

Ocean began building his investment foundation at just 14 years old through investment books and independent research, before starting to invest in 2021. At NP, modules such as Investment & Wealth Management helped deepen his understanding of portfolio diversification and risk management, shaping the way he approaches investing today.

Dary started investing during his polytechnic years after gaining exposure to financial markets from the Banking & Finance curriculum and student investment activities. Through modules covering financial markets, fundamental analysis and portfolio diversification, he developed what he described as “a structured framework to evaluate investments” beyond market sentiment.

For both students, investing in Singapore equities provides a foundation for long-term investing while balancing risks across global markets, with a focus on research, fundamentals and looking beyond market hype.

Ocean and Dary are also part of NP’s InvesTech Club, which brings together students interested in finance, investment and fintech through industry talks, events and platforms such as the Singapore FinTech Festival.
