Last week, NYCOM Executive Director Barbara Van Epps joined The Capitol Pressroom to discuss the growing fiscal pressures facing New York’s cities and villages. As the cost of providing essential services continues to rise, municipalities need greater financial flexibility to respond to unexpected expenses and changing community needs. Without sustainable revenue sources and the ability to manage these challenges, local governments are forced to make difficult choices that will likely impact taxpayers.

The State and local fiscal partnership - including a redesign of the AIM program - must be strengthened to ensure municipalities can continue delivering the services their residents need and depend on.
Senator Jeremy Cooney Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages

We check in with the New York State Conference of Mayors about the rising costs and limited revenues faced by local governments.

We love seeing our member municipalities embracing our Dignify NY initiative! If your community is interested in adopting a similar resolution, we have samples available on our website! Click the link in our bio for more information.

At the Village of Honeoye Falls - October Village Board meeting, the attached resolution was unanimously approved. We feel that dignity and treating people with respect is crucial to local governance. While we may not all agree, there should be no reason to not treat people with dignity.

We will strive to follow this resolution in all we do within the Village of Honeoye Falls.

We wrapped up a great Public Works Training School in Lake Placid, with an excellent keynote from Brandon Schroeder and a special celebration of service. Congratulations to Paul Fraioli on 25 years with the Village of Ossining! NYCOM was proud to recognize his dedication to keeping his village running smoothly.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the public works professionals who make a difference in their communities every day.

A major win for cities and villages and the volunteer first responders who keep our communities safe!

Governor Hochul has signed legislation quadrupling the state income tax credit for eligible volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers, increasing it from $200 to $800 for individuals and from $400 to $1,600 for married couples.

This is an important step toward recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of volunteer first responders, providing financial relief, and supporting recruitment and retention efforts across New York State.

Governor Hochul signed legislation to quadruple New York State's personal income tax credit for eligible volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers, providing financial relief to first responders who dedicate their time to protecting communities across the state.

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of attending the New York Association of Towns - NYAOT Legislative Conference and participating in a panel discussion on 'Building Effective Intergovernmental Relationships.'
