It’s Halloween, y’all!

Like Bob, we love happy little trees. We work to protect them from unwanted wildfires (Bad Fire! No!)

And remember, just because the weather is cooling off doesn’t mean that we should stop being wildfire safe.

That is how we protect our trees.

Thank you, Eastlake Engine staff!

On October 3rd, Engine B5160 escorted Smokey Bear to a fire safety event hosted at the West Reno Home Depot. We hear Smokey was a huge hit.

It is never too early to learn about wildfire safety, so here's a message from all of us: Wildfire safety starts with you! Small actions, like keeping campfires small and never leaving them unattended, being careful during Red Flag days, and properly securing your towing chains make a difference.

On Friday, October 2, NDF Engine staff participated in a ceremony honoring the five men who lost their lives during the 1926 Kings Canyon Fire.

The fire started on September 28, 1926 in the Clear Creek drainage near Carson City. Winds pushed it up ridges and down canyons in the vicinity of present day Highway 50.

Those lost on the Kings Canyon Fire were George Brown, John E. Mitchell, Ross Morres, Arthur Sunday, and Bryant Whitmore.

We thank the Carson City Fire Department for organizing and hosting this important remembrance.

The Nevada Division of Forestry is going back to the Bug Fire line to repair the damage done during the fire suppression. NDF joins me on Midday taking a closer look at what that means and what the public can do to help.

Last week, DCNR attended Nevada Field Day & Ag Expo at the University of Nevada, Reno to support our Conservation Districts program and the Nevada Division of Forestry. The event brought together producers, researchers, and land‑management partners to highlight Nevada agriculture, conservation practices, and hands‑on demonstrations at the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station.

Thank you to our partners and everyone who stopped by to learn more about the work CD programs and NDF are doing across the state!

Washoe County residents, we want to hear from you.

If your land was damaged by the Hawk, Stallion, or Bug fires, NDF wants to hear from you. We are planning post-fire rehabilitation actions to support ecosystem recovery. The process starts with us understanding community needs and concerns.

Visit tinyurl.com/NDFSurvey2026 to access the survey.
