CSU Music Major Gets a Surprise on the Kelly Clarkson Show

Cleveland State University junior Kayla Selan, a music major in the School of Music, will have a remarkable story to tell for years to come. Recently invited to appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show to discuss her journey toward a career in conducting, Selan expected an opportunity to share her passion with a national audience.

CSU School of Music Professor Receives High Praise

After many years of work, Cleveland State University School of Music professor Andrew Rindfleisch has reached the pinnacle. Rindfleisch was named a runner-up in the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his work “American Descent,” a 30-minute, five-movement piece scored for a 13-player sinfonietta that he completed last semester.

Rediscovering Cleveland Sci-Fi Author Andre Norton with Dr. Jeff Karem

Andre Norton is one of the pivotal figures in the history of science fiction and fantasy and remains eminently relevant for modern readers. On April 22, CSU students, along with their families and friends, enjoyed learning about Hungarian traditional music with the Harmonia Band and trying folk dances with László Tihanyi at the event. Organized by the Hungarian Program in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at CSU, the event featured live music from a professional band, as well as a demo workshop on Hungarian folk music and a folk dance lesson led by a trained instructor. Students and their friends also organized a Hungarian ethnic potluck with hot food and desserts.
