Five days. Five poems. One lesson: words flourish when you consistently show up.

From October 16 to 20, 2026, I participated in the Young Creative Writers Hub 5-Day Poetry Challenge and earned a Certificate of Excellence for my creativity, commitment, and exceptional participation.

The truth is, writing on a schedule isn’t easy. Some days, ideas flow effortlessly, while on others, you must actively chase them. However, these days reminded me of what I teach: discipline sharpens talent, and community strengthens both.

What I gained:

- Courage to share my words with other writers.
- Growth through honest feedback.
- Connection with voices that cherish language.
- Consistency, because a gift that is not used becomes small.

Thank you to Mr Igwe Innocent O., Founder of the Young Creative Writers Hub, as well as guest speakers Mr Fodio Ahmed and Mr Collins Otueze, and poem reviewer Mr Igwe Samuel.

Start the poem. Finish the poem. Share the poem. Your voice matters.

Write. Learn. Connect. Grow.

Some time ago, I was considering leaving a teaching position because I believed I could find something better elsewhere. I had already started planning my next move when I decided to discuss it with my mentor.

After listening to my concerns, he advised me not to leave yet. He explained his reasons and instructed me to be patient.

Honestly, I had my own plans, but I reminded myself why I had sought his guidance in the first place. I wanted insights from someone who could see beyond my immediate feelings.

So, I put my plans aside and followed his instructions.

That experience taught me three important lessons:

First, when you find a mentor who can help you, don’t just share your problems; share your dreams and goals as well. Let them understand where you want to go so they can guide you effectively.

Second, discipline matters. Mentors prefer individuals who are ready to learn, take action, and remain consistent. You cannot expect someone to invest in your growth if you are unwilling to follow their instructions.

Third, choose your mentor wisely. Avoid choosing someone whose values conflict with yours. Opt for a mentor whose principles and direction you respect.

Remember, mentors don’t just offer advice; sometimes, they provide specific instructions. When you choose someone to guide you, be willing to listen, ask questions respectfully, and apply what you learn.

This doesn’t mean that mentors are always right. It simply means you should be humble enough to learn from their experience instead of turning every instruction into an argument.

Remember, you can not grow through mentorship if you are not willing to learn.

Imagine a student standing at the school gate, holding a scholarship application in hand. This scholarship has the potential to change their life, but during the interview, they must explain their dreams, showcase their abilities, and convince the panel why they deserve this opportunity.

The student has excellent grades, big dreams, and the potential to succeed. However, when the moment to speak arrives, fear takes over. Their words escape them, their voice trembles, and they struggle to express what is in their heart.

Here's the truth, sometimes, an opportunity requires not only what you know but also your ability to communicate it effectively.

As a student, you will encounter situations where you must defend your ideas, present a project, participate in a debate, attend an interview, or speak in front of an audience.

While you cannot always avoid these moments, you can prepare for them.

That is why developing your public speaking skills while you are still a student is an investment in your future.

When I was in high school, one day, my teacher asked a question, and I stood up to respond, but suddenly, my mind went blank. I couldn't say anything.

However, that wasn't the end of my journey. Through practice, I eventually overcame that fear and gained the confidence to express myself.

That experience taught me that public speaking is a skill that can be developed through practice.

Today, at SpeakUp Training Centre, I want to help others build the confidence to express themselves without letting fear silence them.

On Monday, September 28, 2026, I had the privilege of speaking about Leadership and Mentorship at the Bundeh Grammar Guidance Institute platform.

My presentation focused on this central message:

"True leadership is not about how loud your voice is, but how far your echo travels."

I explained leadership using the illustration of an echo and highlighted three key points:

1. A voice speaks once; an echo repeats.
True leadership transcends simply speaking to a crowd or seeking recognition. It involves investing in people so that the values, knowledge, and encouragement you provide resonate throughout their lives.

2. An echo needs something solid to bounce off.
Effective leadership requires a strong foundation. Discipline, integrity, consistency, and self-leadership give your voice weight and clarity. They are essential before a person can effectively mentor or lead others. A hollow voice produces no echo.

3. The echo outlasts the voice.
A true leader's influence continues even after they are no longer present. Legacy is manifested when people carry forward the lessons, values, and principles they learned from you—not by repeating them verbatim, but by making them their own and passing them along.

Participants were encouraged to reflect on the individuals who have shaped their lives, their "echo-makers," and to think about someone they can begin to mentor.

The session concluded with a simple yet powerful challenge:

Don't just be a voice—build an echo.

In 2022, I was invited to attend a special program. While waiting for the guest speaker to arrive, I sat among the participants, unaware that the person we were awaiting would remind me of a significant period nearly a decade ago.

When he finally arrived, I recognised him instantly. He was one of my students from around 2013 or 2014.

But he was no longer the student I remembered. He had graduated, started working, and had grown into his own person, now standing before us as the guest speaker.

What touched me most was how he introduced and acknowledged me. He didn't shy away from the fact that I had once been his teacher. Instead, he openly appreciated me and made it clear that I had played a role in his journey.

At that moment, I realised something every teacher should remember:

You may teach a student for only a few years, but your influence can last a lifetime.

A teacher may forget specific lessons they taught. A student may even forget the date, the topic, or the homework assigned. However, they may never forget the teacher who believed in them, corrected them, encouraged them, challenged them, or helped them recognise their potential.

That is the beauty of teaching.

You plant seeds without always knowing where they will grow. You invest in young minds without knowing exactly what they will become. And sometimes, years later, life provides you with a glimpse of the harvest.

To every teacher who is teaching today, especially those who sometimes wonder whether their efforts make a difference:

Keep teaching. Keep correcting. Keep encouraging. Keep planting.

You may not see immediate results. But remember:

The lesson may end, but the impact doesn’t.

Happy Teacher's Day to every educator whose influence lingers long after the classroom is empty.

This morning, I found myself reflecting on the words of Ahmed Sékou Touré, Guinea’s first president, who declared in 1958:

« Nous préférons la pauvreté dans la liberté à la richesse dans l'esclavage, » which translates to:

“We prefer poverty in liberty to riches in slavery.”

As Guinea celebrates 68 years of independence on October 2, 2026, these words remind us of the courage and sacrifice that paved the way for our nation’s freedom.

Sékou Touré’s message is straightforward: a people’s dignity and freedom are far more valuable than material wealth without self-determination.

This spirit resonates throughout Guinea’s national anthem, Liberté, which honours those who died for Africa’s liberation and calls for unity:

“Let us build African unity in our newly found independence!”

What a powerful reminder that independence is not just about breaking free from colonial rule; it is also about constructing a future founded on dignity, unity, and responsibility.

As we celebrate this historic milestone, let us honour the sacrifices of those who came before us by safeguarding our freedom, strengthening our unity, and creating opportunities for future generations.

Happy 68th Independence Anniversary, Guinea! 🇬🇳

May liberty remain our pride, unity our strength, and dignity our guiding principle.

This morning, something as simple as preparing my children for school reminded me of a powerful lesson about life.

Today, October 1st, 2026, schools in Mali officially resumed after nearly three months of holidays. My family woke up earlier than usual to get our three children ready. After dressing them, my wife began checking their schoolbags one by one, ensuring everything was in place for the new school term.

As I watched her, a thought crossed my mind: What if we examined our lives with the same attention we give to preparing our children for school?

That moment took me back to the life journey series I started this year, using a moving vehicle to illustrate life's different stages.

In the first half of the year, we explored life through different gears. As we entered the second half, our illustration shifted from gears to different stages of the journey.

July reminded us that we had passed the middle of the road.

August brought us to The Strategic Stop—a moment to refresh, refuel, and prepare for the road ahead.

September reminded us of our anticipation as we moved closer to the final stretch of the year.

Now, welcome to OCTOBER: THE CHECKPOINT OF SELF-REFLECTION.

Imagine travelling a long distance. At a checkpoint, officers may inspect your luggage, verify your identification, and check whether your documents are valid before allowing you to continue.

You can not simply say, “I have travelled this far, so let me pass.” You must stop and be checked.

October invites us to do the same with our lives. It is time to reflect on the journey we have travelled since January.
You need to ask yourself

● How much progress have I made towards my goals?

● What plans have I executed, and which ones have I neglected?

● What mistakes must I correct?

● What habits do I need to change?

● What adjustments must I make before the year ends?

This is not about condemning yourself for what you failed to achieve. It is about learning from the past and making better decisions for the remaining months.

Remember, a checkpoint is not necessarily the end of the journey; it may be the place where you discover what needs to change before you continue.

You may not recover every opportunity you missed, but you can still make better use of the time ahead.

So, this October, don't just ask yourself, “How far have I travelled this year?”

Ask yourself, “Am I moving in the right direction, and what must I adjust before I continue?”

Stop. Inspect. Reflect. Adjust. Then, continue your journey with purpose.

The year is not over yet. There is still a road ahead, and how you travel the remaining distance matters.

09/26/2026

Some time ago, I noticed something interesting about my primary school pupils. Whenever they made a mistake while writing, many of them would tear out the entire page, cross everything out, or hide the mistake as if it had never happened.

So I asked them: “Why do you keep removing your mistakes?”

One of them simply answered: “Because it is wrong.” That answer made me pause. I looked at them and said: “Don’t tear out your mistakes. Leave them there.” They looked confused. Then I explained:

A mistake is not just something that went wrong. Sometimes, it is evidence that you are learning.

One day, you may look back at that page and see the words you struggled to spell, the sentence you didn't understand, or the calculation you got wrong. And you will realise: “I used to struggle with this, but now I understand it.” That mistake becomes part of your progress.

This experience made me realise something.

Many young people do the same thing with their lives.

They make mistakes and make wrong choices. They fail, hurt people, and miss opportunities.

What do they do? They try to erase everything, hide it, and pretend it never happened.

Here is the truth:

You can not learn from a mistake you refuse to acknowledge. Because your mistakes are not your identity.

Hear this: Your failures are not your final destination. And one wrong decision does not mean your whole life is wrong.

Sometimes, the chapter we wish we could erase becomes the chapter that teaches us the most. Therefore, don't be afraid of your mistakes. Acknowledge, learn, correct, and grow beyond them.

Remember, you don't have to be proud of every mistake you've made. But you can be grateful for the lessons they left behind. Because sometimes, the page you wanted to tear out is the very page that proves how far you have come.
