Storybook Character Day throughout GUSD is the best, and we love catching up with our students who are dressing up as their favorite character from their favorite book. Check out the cool costumes from today's event at Glen View Elementary. 📚🦅👻

On October 26, Gilroy High School Link Crew students visited Glen View Elementary to deliver packets of books to some kinder and first grade students. Included in the packets were drawings colored by Link Crew students, and a note encouraging the Baby Eagle crew to keep reading.

Thanks Mustangs for encouraging the gift of reading to some of our youngest scholars. They were thrilled!

The Gilroy Unified School District is proud to announce that Gilroy High School Choir Director Jonathan Souza has been invited by MidAmerica Productions to return to Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 18, 2028, as a guest conductor!

Souza will lead a performance of selections from Christopher Tin's To Shiver the Sky, an extraordinary choral and orchestral work celebrating humanity's dreams of flight, exploration, and discovery.

Following his successful Carnegie Hall debut in April 2026, Souza will once again bring singers and choirs together for an unforgettable musical experience on one of the world's most prestigious stages.

Congratulations, Mr. Souza, on this exciting professional achievement! 🎵

Congratulations to staff and students at GECA, South Valley Middle School, and Rod Kelley Elementary School for winning the September Attendance Challenge! Students from all three schools won a sweet treat from our Child Nutrition Department, AND the GUSD Golden Bell will stay at their schools until the conclusion of the next Attendance Challenge!

Our goal in GUSD is 95% attendance across all schools, in every grade, every day! We know that when students are here today, they are ready for tomorrow. Missing just two days of school a month equals 20 missed days in a school year, or one month of learning lost.

Thank you to all of our trusted adults who help ensure their students are in school, on time, every day.

Will GECA, SVMS, and Rod Kelley hold onto the Golden Bell for more than one month? That remains to be seen. Congratulations again!

On October 19, we celebrated three members of Team GUSD, at the annual Santa Clara County Office of Education Teacher Recognition Celebration.

Jane Ellis, from Brownell Middle School, was honored as the District's 2026 Teacher of the Year.

Tiffanie Willie-Beltran, from Christopher High School, won the 2026 Mirastar Arts Leadership award.

And Rainbow Lobo-Derr, from Brownell Middle School, who was unable to attend, received the Boldness in STEM award.

Superintendent Munshi, Board President Fiack, and Board Vice President Nelson were all in attendance to celebrate these amazing educators!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to GECA, Las Animas Elementary and Rod Kelley Elementary for being named a 2026 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll school. This list recognizes high-performing, achievement gap-closing schools across the nation.

The Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence, is the only school award given in collaboration with state and local business leaders.

The Honor Roll is a valuable resource for all schools to identify successful peers and learn about best practices that are improving student achievement. For more info on and the ERP Honor Roll program, visit: www.edresults.org.

It is National School Bus Safety Week, and members of the Team GUSD Transportation Department are some of the best school bus drivers around! Support our Everyday Heros to provide Safe Rides for all of our students by following the rules of the road, at all times, but especially in school zones and around school buses:

• Stop for red lights: Always come to a complete stop when a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends its stop-arm.

• Never pass illegally: Passing a stopped school bus is illegal in all 50 states and poses a deadly risk to children getting on or off the bus.

• Watch the "danger zone": Be extra alert around the 10-foot area surrounding a school bus where children are most vulnerable.

• Eliminate distractions: Put away phones and slow down, especially during dark morning hours.

Thank you for helping to keep our students safe! Thank you to our awesome drivers who take such good care of all of our bus riders.

National School Lunch Week, October 12-16! 🎉

Last week, and every week, we celebrate the nutritious meals, dedicated staff, and students who make school lunch an important part of every school day. School meals provide the energy students need to learn, grow, and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Thank you to our incredible nutrition team for serving healthy, delicious meals with care every day. ❤️

It's Homecoming season, and it's Christopher High School's turn to celebrate. The Gilroy community is invited to join the Cougars for the annual Homecoming Parade, Wednesday, October 21, beginning at 7 pm. The parade route starts on Tapestry Drive, and continues onto Sunrise, and into the neighborhoods by Sunrise Park, before returning to Tapestry to conclude.

Set-up your lawn chair curbside along the route, or visit the judge's table at Sunrise Park. This year's theme is HocoChella, and is centered around the love of music and self-expression. Each grade level will build a float based on their favorite genre of music.

Then, on Thursday, October 22, cheer on the Cougars in their annual Homecoming football game at the Don Christopher Sports Complex, beginning at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale through GoFan.

Cafecito with the Counselors resumes in November. All are welcome.
