We couldn't do the work we do without our incredible volunteers! This month, we're excited to recognize Grace Walsh as VMC's Volunteer of the Month!

For the past two years, Grace has faithfully supported our Street Outreach team, lending a hand with everything from the Clothing Closet and donations to whatever task needs an extra set of hands. Her willingness to help wherever she's needed, especially behind the scenes, makes her such a valued part of the VMC community.

Fun fact: Grace is also an avid animal lover with quite the crew at home. Grace has 5 cats, 5 dogs, 12 chickens, 1 rabbit, and 3 fish!

This month, we're celebrating Justin Rowe's two-year anniversary at Volunteer Ministry Center!

As part of VMC's Janitorial and Maintenance team, Justin helps keep things running smoothly each day. From creating safer, more accessible spaces around our campus and making sure our vehicles are ready to serve our community to keeping our building clean and welcoming for staff and Neighbors, Justin's work touches nearly every part of VMC.

Much of what Justin does happens behind the scenes, but the impact is easy to see. His ability to solve problems and take care of the countless details that keep our facilities and operations moving makes a difference every day.

Justin, thank you for your hard work, dependability, and the care you put into making VMC a safe and welcoming place for our Neighbors, staff, volunteers, and community. We are grateful to have you on our team!

You don't have to be experiencing homelessness to receive care at the VMC Dental Clinic.

That's something you may not know about VMC!

Our Dental Clinic exists to improve the quality of life and the smiles of our unhoused and low-income Neighbors. The clinic serves eligible uninsured Knox County residents aged 18 and older, including individuals experiencing homelessness and those who meet extremely low-income guidelines, regardless of housing status.

Through the generosity of volunteer dental professionals, donors, and grant partners, the clinic provides services including cleanings, fillings, extractions, and more.

Access to dental care can make a difference in someone's health, confidence, and overall quality of life.

Volunteers are at the heart of VMC. 💙

Every day, people in our community give their time, talents, and energy to help us serve our Neighbors and further our mission of prevent and end homelessness.

Our Board of Directors is a wonderful example of that spirit of service. Their commitment goes far beyond the boardroom. You'll find our board members serving meals, lending a hand at events, volunteering at Caswell and Minvilla Manor, helping in the Bush Family Refuge, and stepping in wherever they're needed.

We are so grateful for our board members and ALL of our incredible volunteers who continue to show up for VMC and, most importantly, for our Neighbors.

Sometimes, it's a seemingly small obstacle that stands between someone and housing stability.

For Blake and Kayden, it was a pair of work shoes. Both were preparing to start new jobs the next day, but without the proper shoes, they couldn't work. And without employment, they risked losing their place to stay.

They came to VMC's Bush Family Refuge, where our team was able to help remove that barrier and make sure they had what they needed to take the next step forward.

Sometimes preventing homelessness looks like housing assistance. Sometimes it looks like connecting someone to resources. And sometimes, it looks like a pair of shoes.

Every barrier removed can make a BIG difference.
