Parenting kids with vulnerable nervous systems can feel a bit like groundhog day.
Same lying.
Same arguments.
Same conversations that somehow go nowhere.
It’s easy to assume these moments are just about defiance, disrespect, or poor choices.
And they might be. But we can always look deeper. We can always ask ‘Why? What’s up with that?” because humans, kids, people are driven to be in connection. When we’re dealing with a behavior that is pushing AWAY connection- we gotta pause and get curious.
We gotta look to understand the nervous system underneath.
When kids shift into protection mode, honesty, flexibility, and problem-solving can become harder to access.
That doesn’t mean the behavior is okay.
But it DOES mean we need a different roadmap for responding.
In my upcoming webinar, Brain-Based Strategies and Scripts for Lying, Manipulation, and Verbal Aggression, we’ll explore:
• why kids lie, manipulate, and use verbal aggression
• what these behaviors may be communicating
• how to respond without escalating
• and scripts you can use right away
Because when behavior makes sense, we respond differently.
That’s the only thing we can really have control over, anyway.
