Soft Landing Missoula Our vision is to help Missoula be a welcoming, supportive and informed community that can assist refugees to integrate and thrive.

There’s a lot happening in national refugee policy right now, and it can feel overwhelming to keep up with. Between Green Card delays, sudden healthcare cuts, historically low admission caps, and shortened appeal timelines, many of our new neighbors are facing sudden legal hurdles through no fault of their own.

When systems set people up for failure, showing up for one another is what makes Missoula feel like home. We remain dedicated to walking alongside newcomer families with free support services, local advocacy, and spaces of joy, dignity, and belonging.

How you can help right now:
- Stay Informed: Share this post to help keep our community educated and aware!
- Advocate: Call on our leaders to protect due process and demand fair treatment for refugees.
- Support Local: Visit the link in our bio to learn more about how you can support our newcomer neighbors today.

October is flying by and the uwe kitchen has been full of warmth and sharing. We recently had another sweet dual chef moment. Bernardo and his dad, Luis came together to cook a delcious meal. Bernardo learned much of his cooking skills from his dad and they still love to be in the kitchen together. For Bernardo he loves sharing traditional Venezuelan dishes with the Missoula community. Growing up in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Bernardo learned early on that love is the most essential ingredient in any recipe.
When Bernardo moved to the U.S. 14 years ago, missing the flavors of home inspired him to collect family recipes and deepen his craft. Today, cooking with UWE allows him to share his culture with pride and nurture those around him:
“In Venezuela, we have a saying: ‘If your belly is full, your heart is happy.’ My goal is for my food to bring that exact same warmth, comfort, and joy to everyone in Missoula.”

October is the start of gathering season! As the leaves fall and the weather turns, we naturally find ourselves gathering in the kitchen and sharing meals. For United We Eat chefs Talah and Abeer, serving traditional Yemeni dishes to Missoula is all about connection and opportunity:
"Sharing our food with Missoula is our way of giving back to our new community. Seeing people's faces light up over a warm, delicious meal brings us so much joy."
Beyond bringing vibrant new flavors to our town, cooking with UWE offers chefs a space to share their culture with pride, build lasting relationships, and earn independent income for their families.
Seeing our community gather over a shared plate is what this season is all about. Follow along with us all month as we celebrate the chefs, stories, and dishes that make United We Eat so special!

WOW! What an incredible Month of Welcome! September has come to an end and we had an incredible time celebrating Welcome with all of you.

As we head into October, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. Over 700 Missoulians joined us throughout September across 9 events to celebrate this year’s Month of Welcome. Seeing so many neighbors, come together reminded us why Missoula is such a special place to call home.

We want to extend a massive thank you to the local organizations, small businesses, venues, and advocates who co-hosted, sponsored, fed, and supported us throughout the Month of Welcome!

"In today's world, it is more important than ever that we take time to listen to one another," Slater said. "Welcoming refugees and immigrants is something that transcends politics. At its heart, welcoming is about community, empathy and learning from the rich tapestries of culture and experience that new neighbors bring to Missoula."

Thank you to the Missoulian for sharing about our 6th annual Stories of home!
