"I'm laying down my gun
I'm hanging up boots
I'm up here with God and we're both watching over you"
[Brett Warren, Brad Warren & Tim McGraw]
Music for Seniors continues to enlist local musicians to reach an ever-increasing number of older adults in Middle Tennessee.
Music for Seniors connects area musicians with older adults through live and interactive music programs designed to engage, entertain and educate seniors – promoting health and wellbeing, reducing isolation and enriching the lives of all participants. Since March of 2020, Music for Seniors now includes Virtual Outreach and Virtual Learning Labs to its programming.

"So fun!"
Well, another successful Percussion Workshop/Drum Circle completed - we sure had a blast at FiftyForward Donelson Station this week, with Ross Lester from 'Everybody Drum Some' leading the way!
Did you know that drumming has several noted benefits for older adults? Drum circles aren't just fun - they're genuinely good for you.
Research shows that group drumming can help reduce stress, sharpen focus, boost mood, and even support immune function. Plus, keeping a beat is a full-brain workout - coordinating rhythm, listening, and movement all at once.
There's something powerful about making music together that words can't quite capture. No experience needed. No wrong notes. Just rhythm, community, and a whole lot of joy.
Thanks to Tennessee Arts Commission for helping make these joyous occasions happen for older adults throughout the state!

Did you know Music for Seniors programming happens in more than 15 counties across the state? Here's a recap of a recent program in Knoxville:
We had a fantastic inaugural East TN Songwriting Workshop at Knoxville Museum of Art last week! Songwriter and Music for Seniors facilitator, Bill Cabage, shared his songwriting knowledge with these eager writers and also performed one of his own hits.
A song was created together by this special group and was recorded before the session ended.
Special thanks to our host, DeLena Feliciano of KMA and to the Tennessee Arts Commission for making this workshop possible.
We have two more East TN songwriting Workshops coming up in the next few weeks. Take a look at our full events calendar for workshops and more!

Did you know music is one of the most powerful tools for reaching someone living with dementia?
Songs from their past can spark recognition, emotion, and joy even when so much else feels out of reach.
That's why our Musician Partners like Chris Miller dedicate their time visiting with residents and sharing the tunes they grew up loving.
Sometimes service to others has a sound.
