Music for Seniors continues to enlist local musicians to reach an ever-increasing number of older adults in Middle Tennessee.

Music for Seniors connects area musicians with older adults through live and interactive music programs designed to engage, entertain and educate seniors – promoting health and wellbeing, reducing isolation and enriching the lives of all participants. Since March of 2020, Music for Seniors now includes Virtual Outreach and Virtual Learning Labs to its programming.

Complete with an opening “rhythmic gift” for each participant, Connye Florance shared her “Story, Rhythm and Rhyme” Songwriting Workshop with our friends at Bethlehem Center of Nashville earlier this week.

Connye’s fun and inspirational approach to creativity through rhythm and word allowed participants to be both vulnerable and openly expressive as they shared joy and pain through their lyrics.

Songwriting can spark creativity, strengthen memory, and build community, and you don’t need to read music to take part. You just need a story to tell.

Thanks to Tennessee Arts Commission for help making workshops like this available.

What's that? Oh just another jam with our friends at Maristone at Providence in Mt. Juliet!

We brought a boat load of drums and percussion instruments for the residents to play along with the guys from Unbroken Circle.

It's always a treat when The WannaBeatles share their program with us!

With another full house at The Franklin Theatre last week, the band played all of our favorites while sprinkling in plenty of humor and top notch showmanship to make the concert an absolute delight - thank you fellas!

Everyone has a story to tell, and every story can become a song!

Join Music for Seniors for a fun, interactive songwriting workshop with gifted songwriter and teaching artist Bill Cabage, sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission and hosted by the Knoxville Museum of Art.

Participants will learn the basic elements of songwriting while contributing their own ideas, stories, and creativity to the collaborative creation of an original song. Working together with Bill, the group will develop the song’s lyrics and music throughout the workshop.

By the end of the session, participants will have created a song together and will perform it as a group, led by the teaching artist.

No songwriting experience is necessary. Just bring your stories, ideas, and imagination!

Good times in Goodlettsville - how about that?!?

Thanks to everyone that joined us this week for another great program with Donna Frost and the Usual Suspects. Donna, Lois, Denny, Dusty and Jack delivered a fun set of crowd favorites as we sang and danced along!

As we continue celebrating Assisted Living Week, we want to again recognize the caregivers/partners that brought out their residents and loved ones to share in some musical fellowship, followed by lunch provided by our friends at Delmas Long Community Center!
