New York City Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities Commissioner Nisha Agarwal challenged OTI staff during our event last week to think bigger about accessibility, equity, and technology.

Commissioner Agarwal, the force behind IDNYC and NYC’s first voting guide for the deaf, also shared how she’s building awareness of her new agency’s mission and advancing accessibility across the city.

“I want to work 10 times harder because I’m helping ordinary people,” Commissioner Agarwal said. “When you win you win really big.”

OTI recently took the stage at Pitchfest 2026 to highlight a pair of projects aimed at better evaluating the impact of the City’s 450 public computer centers and AI on the City’s workforce.

Pitchfest provides city and state agencies with a platform to show off important work that could potentially benefit from the support of external experts and philanthropic funding.

Thanks to NYCEDC, NYC Service, NYC Opportunity, Town+Gown: NYC, and PilotCity, who helped put on the event!

"I can sit on my sofa and order a vegan burrito and mezcal and w**d and have it delivered within 10 minutes, whereas if I want to apply for SNAP benefits or find a childcare provider, that process is so onerous.”

Chief Technology Officer Lisa Gelobter tells Vanity Fair how we're looking for solutions, like the child care map we recently rolled out, to show New York City families that city government CAN deliver for them:

New York City and Portland are separated by nearly 2,500 miles but united by a shared mission to keep their residents’ most sensitive information safe.

NYC Chief Privacy Officer Michael Fitzpatrick met with City of Portland, OR Privacy Coordinator Hector Dominguez earlier this week at OTI’s offices in Brooklyn to exchange ideas to build stronger privacy protections for both our communities.
