My is the Community Wellness & Safety Day on Saturday from 1p to 6p in East Liberty! Thanks to all the partners involved that made this happen.

Today, I joined Mayor Corey O'Connor, the URA and the Larimer Consensus Group to announce a new housing initiative in Larimer that has been years in the making.

A Request for Interest has been issued for several City and URA-owned vacant lots in the neighborhood to be restored as new housing at a scale that will redevelop multiple parcels at once while bringing the per home construction costs significantly down, helping to bring Larimer Vision Plan to fruition.

Thank you to the Larimer Consensus Group, the URA Pittsburgh and Mayor O’Connor for being partners in this transformative work.

Today, we honor the dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures across and our entire city who dedicate themselves to guiding, supporting, and uplifting our young people. Being a father is the most rewarding role of my life, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to watch my sons, Thad and Isaiah, grow into talented and remarkable young men. To all those who are pointing our next generation in the right direction, providing safe spaces, and providing examples how to build community—thank you. Enjoy this special day surrounded by family and love!

Today, we commemorate freedom, unity and progress. to all!

Last night, I was briefed at length on the incident in East Liberty involving a large gathering of teens that required a significant response from local law enforcement. I spoke to Zone 5 Commander Lance Hoyson and Assistant Public Safety Director Cornell Jones.

As our public safety bureau conducts its investigation, we know that the flash crowd disturbance was organized online, involved teens from numerous municipalities across Allegheny County, and appears to have involved very few young people from the immediate area.

This morning, we will receive additional updates and touch base with our community partners as we prepare to launch our community health, wellness, and safety street team next weekend to prevent these incidents in the future and keep our communities safe this summer and beyond. We will keep the public informed as more information is gathered.

Thanks to the good folks at the Homewood Active Living Center for the welcome and hospitality at today’s Juneteenth celebration. It was great seeing so many familiar faces and community leaders enjoying the beautiful weather, warm fellowship and tasty food as summer kicks into full gear.

Applications for the 2026 round of Love Your Block are now open through July 15th! Love Your Block is a City of Pittsburgh program that brings neighbors together to improve our communities by combating blight, creating assets, and building resilience, block by block.

Community organizations across Pittsburgh are invited to apply for $500 and $1000 grants, and a limited number could qualify for a $1,500 grant. These grants will function as a reimbursement.
