SVTU had a great time at our Day in the Park on Saturday! We potlucked, shared about the work of the union, and made art, including banners for 2 of our 3 locals.

Facing a landlord problem? Join us at a Tenant Solidarity Meeting! Our Arden Local will be meeting this Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30pm at 3532 Whitney Ave! These meetings are a chance to share issues you are facing and get support from fellow renters. Lately we have heard from folks fighting to get their security deposits back, facing illegal evictions, and struggling to get their landlord to make repairs. Whatever your issue, we will strive to find a path forward through collective problem solving!

Our next general meeting is an opportunity to show off your Internet sleuth skills & dig up dirt on your landlord! The theme is "Know Your Enemy: A Landlord Research Skillshare."

Together we'll learn how to leverage publicly available data to strategize against landlords. Then, we'll work together to dig up some dirt on the notorious slumlords in the neighborhoods SVTU is organizing. No experience necessary -- this is a great co-learning opportunity where we can build new skills together!

On Saturday, March 21, members of four different Autonomous Tenant Union Network member-unions gathered for the afternoon to talk about the strategies and opportunities for building Local chapters of our unions. Billed as “Kitchen Table Live,” the event was facilitated by members of the Kitchen Table collective, a group of organizers from different tenant unions.

Yesterday’s event began with short dispatches from members of Crown Heights Tenant Union / United Pinnacle Tenants, TANC / East of Lake Local, Sacramento Valley Tenants Union / Del Paso Local, Puget Sound Tenant Union / Capital Hill Local, and L.A. Tenants Union / Hollywood Local. Then Lupe Limón Corrales from the Echo Park Local of LATU talked about how their union has built community defense networks in the face of the ICE kidnapping crises.

The whole event reiterated the critical value of conversations between tenant unions in teasing out the meaning of tenant union “praxis” in the current moment.

The gathering concluded with a plug for the ATUN / Kitchen Table Basebuilding School of tenant organizers and base leaders seeking to strengthen the organizing of a place-based union today.
