The Sacramento Valley Section of the California American Planning Association (SVS APA) is excited to announce the second year of the Rural Planning Leadership Academy and Network (R-PLAN) program designed for rural planning professionals working for Cities and Counties in rural northern California. SVS APA encompasses the most geographically broad area within the California APA. We recognize the unique experiences and needs of our rural members, as well as the difficulties they experience getting to in-person events typically held in the Sacramento core. The goal of this program is to support the professional development of public sector planners working for rural jurisdictions.

The R-PLAN program will run for 10 months beginning in October of 2024 with a group of 10 to 15 participants. This program will be supported by leadership of the Sacramento Valley Section APA Board and facilitated by a volunteer Steering Committee of local APA member planning professionals that include several rural area Agency Directors and staff, as well as members of the SVS APA award winning PLAN mentorship program steering committee.

Program Snapshot: Five (5) remote learning & sharing sessions focused around the rural experience.

Topics may include:
• General leadership skills and Strengthsfinder
• Fire and natural disaster resiliency
• Public and tribal engagement
• Transportation
• Public financing/agency operations
• Housing
• Legislation
• Public Engagement
• Connecting with State Agencies and resource
