June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a call-to-action for communities to recognize and prevent abuse. More than 300,000 older adults and people with disabilities in California are reported as victims of abuse each year.

The CDSS celebrated Pride Month with a panel discussion moderated by CDSS Director Jennifer T***a featuring Senator Caroline Menjivar and Assemblymember Alex Lee, two members of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus. The conversation highlighted LGBTQIA+ history, representation in state leadership, and the ongoing work to expand equity and access to services for all Californians.

Thank you to the CDSS Office of Equity Division and the LGBTQIA+ Employee Affinity Group for organizing this event and for their continued work to advance inclusion across the Department. 🏳️‍🌈

The CDSS Community Care Expansion (CCE) program recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new permanent supportive housing facility by the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation that will help older West Oaklanders remain in their community. This facility received $5.2 million in CCE funding for dedicated housing units for older adults currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness and eligible for or receiving Supplemental Security Income, State Supplementary Payment, or Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants benefits.
