Serna Elementary School - North East ISD

During a Special Board Meeting on Monday, May 18, the North East ISD Board of Trustees named Interim Superintendent Anthony Jarrett as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent.

“He has maintained a strong commitment to student success, academic excellence and community partnerships,” said Board President David Beyer. “We are confident that his leadership, experience, and vision will help guide our District forward, toward continued growth and opportunity for all staff students and families.”

Jarrett brings more than 25 years of experience in public education including six years with NEISD. He previously served as the District’s Chief Instructional Officer before being named Interim Superintendent in December of last year. Prior to joining North East ISD in 2019, Jarrett served as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent in Northside ISD.

Following the announcement, Jarrett shared his gratitude to the board and enthusiasm for this next chapter.

“Sitting in this role is a humbling experience,” said Jarrett. “The mindset of service first and self second is something that I fundamentally believe in. I think working alongside you guys, I know our District will continue to grow, get better and be one of the best districts in the country.”

Per state mandate, NEISD trustees must wait at least 21 days before officially voting to appoint Jarrett as our District’s newest Superintendent.

📚✨ Letter Hunters in Action! ✨📚

Our kindergarten classes had a blast in the library this month! After reading a favorite ABC book together, we turned into letter detectives and went on an exciting hunt to find letters all around the library. 🔍

From book spines to posters to signs, our little learners spotted letters everywhere! You should have seen their faces light up each time they discovered a new one.

The dust has finally settled on our first-ever **Bluebonnet Battle** here at Serna, and the results are in. Let’s just say the teachers might need to head back to the library for some extra credit... because THE STUDENTS WON!🥇📚

It was a clash of the titans as our student team went head-to-head with the staff. While the teachers put up a noble fight, our students proved that they are the true masters of the Bluebonnet Books this year.

We are beyond proud to celebrate our incredible Early Childhood Special Education teacher, Melanie Naldo, for being Serna’s Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching recipient! 🎉

Ms. Naldo’s dedication shines day in and day out as she works with our youngest learners, often providing them with their very first positive classroom experiences. She creates a nurturing, joyful, and engaging environment where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated.
