Yesterday wasn’t your average Thursday. 🚗🎸

For one day, downtown streets weren’t for traffic. They were for people.

Parking spots became places to stay, thanks to Cuba 1918, The Eatery, Best Block, Bexar County Public Works, and Proficient Constructors with The Mahj Affair.

The Gensler Pickleball Tournament brought serious rallies to the middle of downtown, and Guitar Wars, presented by Downtown West SA , closed out the night.

What does affordable housing look like? 🏙️

That was the question at Changing the Narrative, our Annual Joint Luncheon with San Antonio. The short answer from our panel: no one should have to spend more than 30% of their income on rent, and getting there will take every tool we have, working together.

Your weekend, Downtown 🍂 Here’s what’s happening October 16–18:

🎬 Fri & Sat: Lower Deck Movie Nights at the InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk. It’s Hocus Pocus on Friday and Coco on Saturday.

🎨 Now open: Mercado/Material at Centro de Artes in Historic Market Square, where over a dozen artists turn piñatas, fruit cups, and market signs into bold art. On view through Mar 7.

🎤 All weekend: Jason Rodriguez brings his laid-back stand-up to Riot Riverwalk Comedy Club.

🍺 Sat: The San Antonio B**r Festival pours hundreds of brews at Civic Park at Hemisfair, 12–6 PM. It’s 21+, and proceeds benefit the San Antonio Food Bank.

🏈 Sat: UTSA hosts Navy at the Alamodome. Kickoff is 7 PM.

🧘 Sun: Free Community Yoga at Civic Park, 10–11 AM. Bring your own mat!

🥂 Sun: Ch*****ne & Chandeliers brunch at The St. Anthony, with seatings at 11 AM and 1 PM.

On Thursday, Oct 22, Downtown Together: The Great Street Takeover hands W. Houston Street, between Soledad and N. Flores, back to the people who love it.

Inspired by Park(ing) Day, the international movement that turns parking spaces into places for people, we’re inviting San Antonio to claim a spot and make it something new.

A garden. A game. A place to sit, share, or make something together. If you can dream it, there’s a spot for it, starting at 10 AM.

Claiming a spot is free. Bring your business, your art, your nonprofit, your neighbors, or just a good idea. You can also sponsor a spot or volunteer to help bring the day to life.
