On May 21, La Scuola International School of San Francisco and the Italian middle school Leonardo da Vinci, part of the Istituto Comprensivo Giovanni Gabrieli in Mirano-Venice, met online for a joint orchestral performance.
La Scuola International School’s orchestra, featuring mandolins, mandolas, guitars and basses, performed Tarantella by Raffaele Calace and Speranze Perdute by Alessandro Morelli.
The I.C. Gabrieli orchestra, composed of violins, flutes, guitars and pianos, performed Holberg Suite by Edvard Grieg and Retrolonga by Electrocutango.
The two orchestras also performed Tarantella Napoletana, arranged collaboratively by the music teachers of both schools: Alfonso Baschiera, Carlo Dean, Marco Maida, Sara Scatto, and Monica Zampieri.
Before concluding the event, the students exchanged questions and shared curiosities about their educational experiences in both Italian and English.
We now look forward to seeing this long-distance partnership develop into a student exchange program, allowing the two orchestras to perform together in San Francisco and, hopefully, in Mirano-Venice as well.
